Just days ago we reported an all-female super-card to celebrate "Hina Matsuri". It seems that that card was just the start of a very interesting week for Asian fighters with reports of yet another great looking female title contest.
The details we got today are that Honey Mae Bermoy (6-2, 6), also known as Honey Katsumata, will be challenge the hard hitting hitting Riyo Togo (11-5-1, 9) for the OPBF female Bantamweight title.
Honey, pictured, is a Japanese based Filipino teenager who has proven to have venom in her punches.
Although aged just 19 Honey is rated very highly. That is, in part, due to her work at the Katsumata Gym as well as her 3-0 (3) record in Japan, which included a 3rd TKO over Saki Yamada, the older sister of Mako Yamada. This will, however, be a big step up for her following wins over mostly limited opponents so far.
At 38 years old Togo is the significantly older fighter though she's also the more experienced combatant and has fought at world class for much of her career. Her career has seen her sharing a ring with the likes of Kimika Miyoshi, 5 times!, Janeth Perez and Mariana Juarez, twice.
As the defending champion Togo will be favoured, especially with her dynamite power though her long career will have taken it's toll on her and she may not be as big of a favourite as some may think given the level she's competed at an the significant edge in experience.
With 15 of their combined 17 wins coming by stoppage we'd not be shocked if this one doesn't go the distance in what looks like a wonderfully explosive encounter.
