On Saturday fight fans in Australia had the chance to see two Filipino fighters in action with the pair of them having very different levels of success today.
The main event of the card was a rematch as Filipino fighter Joebert De los Reyes (15-7-1, 10) battled for the vacant WBA Oceania Light Welterweight title and battled against Darragh Foley (9-2, 7). The two men first met last year, in fact it was almost a year ago to the day, with the Filipino originally taking a 10 round split decision over Foley to give the Aussie his first loss. This time around things were very different as Foley came out with bad intentions and dropped De los Reyes in round 4 before closing the show in round 6, to avenge the loss.
Thankfully things in the other fight were much better for the Filipino fighter, who in this case was Gretchen Abaniel (17-8, 6) who over-came the previously unbeaten Petcharas Superchamp (6-1, 1) to unify the GBU female Minimumweight title, which she already held, with the WIBA title.
Abaniel dropped Petcharas in the 4th round en route to a 10 round decision win to give the Thai her first defeat. For Abaniel this was a secnd successive win following a trio of losses through the Orient, including a defeat to Kumiko Seeser Ikehara in a WBO title fight in 2014.
