Tomorrow fight fans at the Aqua Bunka Hall in Osaka will get the chance to see a very interesting looking WBC female Minimumweight title bout between defending champion Yuko Kuroki (12-4-1, 6) and veteran contender Masae Akitaya (9-5-2, 3).
Earlier today the fighters weight in for their bout with the defending champion weighing the lighter of the two fighters at around 104½lbs. That's ½lb lighter than she was in her previous defense, a very narrow win over Katia Gutierrez, but ¼lbs heavier than she was when she won the title a year ago, out pointing Mari Ando.
Although heavier Akitaya never threatened the limit, weighing in at 104¾lbs, which is the 4th highest weight of her career, and her highest since 2009. Whilst that sounds like an amazing fact it does need to be noted that she has been regularly fighting at Atomweight, 102lbs, during that time period.
The weigh in so no animosity at all between the two fighters who are said to have a very good personal relationship and have sparred in the past. That however doesn't stop Akitaya wanting to claim the world title, after having previously come up short in 3 other title bouts.
Kuroki defends her WBC title against Akitaya but can she keep her good run going? (Preview)
