Tomorrow Japanese fans willsee history being made as the country hosts it's first WBO Asia Pacific title fight. The bout in question will see Akihiro Kondo (24-6-1, 11) [近藤 明広] battling Filipino fighter Jeffrey Arienza (15-4-1,9) for the Light Welterweight belt, and although the title is only a minor one it's introduction into Japanese boxing is a significant one.
Today the two men involved in the bout took part in their weigh in.
On the scales Kondo was the heavier man coming in at around 139.5lbs for the bout. The world ranked Japanese fighter, ranked #6 by the IBF, will be hoping that a win moves him into the WBO rankins as well.
Arienza was significantly lighter coming in around 139lbs for the bout, which is lighter than he has been in his last two bouts. Although the under-dog Arienza will be confident of springing the surprise and did acquit himself well in two previous bouts in Japan, losing to Masayuki Ito and Daishi Nagata.
