According to numerous sources in Japan it seems that former 3-weight world champion Koki Kameda (33-2, 18) has retired form the sport of boxing.
The former Light Flyweight, Flyweight and Bantamweight title holder was in action on Friday night in the US where he suffered a decision loss to WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (31-8-1, 13). The bout was supposed to be an easy route to Kameda's 4th world title but instead the bout, a 12 round war, resulted in Koki's second loss, and the 4th loss for a Kameda brother so far this year.
According to the sources Kameda said that he was done with the sport of boxing, despite having had a great career, in comments made to the media following the loss.
Of course the comments could have been said in the heat of the moment though the sources seem to suggest that Kameda was fully aware of what he was saying and it serious about retirement. We will however after to wait and see whether or not Kameda changes his mind in the coming weeks, or months.
