Less than 24 hours after being told that Kohei Kono (30-8-1, 13) would be defending his WBA Super Flyweight title against mandatory challenger Koki Kameda (33-1, 18) on July 24th we've been involved that Kono has suffered a rib injury in sparring.
The full details of the injury haven't been made public however Kono is thought to have been instructed to take the rest of June off. Sadly that will almost certainly force the fight to be rescheduled with "advisor" Al Haymon now needing to find a new date for the bout, which is now expected to take place in August or September.
This injury has extended one of boxing's most frustrating and long running saga's though it does seem that the bout will just be rescheduled and no other contractual issues will come up.
