Tomorrow will be the start of a new era in Japanese boxing as www.boxingraise.com shows it's first live card. The main of which will see veterans colliding as Japanese Flyweight champion Takuya Kogawa (26-4, 13) [粉川 拓也] defends his title against 37 year old challenger Masafumi Otake (15-14-3, 7) [大嶽 正史]. The fighters might be veterans but the platform they are fighting on is new, exciting and potentially revolutionary for the Japanese fight scene.
Today the fighters weighed in for the bout and both successfully made the Flyweight limit, with both weighing dead on the 112lb allowed.
For Otake the bout looks likely to be his last, win or lose. He may not have an exceptional record but he has been a great servant to Japanese boxing and will know that he's getting this fight due to his lengthy career and not on merit as such. He will also know that there's no point holding back and will almost certainly lay it all on the line here.
Kogawa on the other hand has a lot to lose with potential world title bouts or an OPBF title bout around the corner. He's rightfully regarded as the favourite, and could be a star of the BoxingRaise service. The action champion has prepared for this knowing he cannot afford a loss and should be willing to meet Otake in a potential war, as Kogawa's fights often are.
