Earlier this month we reported that OPBF Super Middleweight champion Yuzo Kiyota (29-4-1, 27) [清田 祐三] would be returning to the ring in April to defend his for the 4th time. At the time his opponent hadn't been named but today that changed.
We now know that Kiyota, a former world title challenger, will be up against Shintaro Matsumoto (12-4, 9) [松本 晋太郎], in what will be their third meeting.
The two first fought back in in March 22nd, with Kiyota defeating Matsumoto in 7 rounds to defend the title. The two then met again in December 2013 with Kiyota scoring a 4th round TKO to reclaim the OPBF title, which had been made vacant.
It's hard to see an upset happening here however Kiyota has looked shaky in recent bouts, against some very limited opposition.
Whilst Kiyota has looked poor Matsumoto has won his last two bouts, though they have both taken place at Light Heavyweight, and losing the extra weight may well take something from the challenger, who is 0-3 in title bouts so far.
Yuzo Kiyota to defend belt on April 12th, Suguru Muranaka to return!
