According to several Japanese news outlets there are serious allegations against WBA Flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka (20-1, 12) [井岡一翔] and with his father, who has also been accused of fraudulently claiming medical expenses.
The fighter, a 3-weight world champion and an extremely popular member of the Japanese boxing culture, is accused of having concealed ¥500000000 away from the tax authorities. That's nearly $500,000 for our American readers.
The accusation has come to light due to Ioka's flashy lifestyle which has seen him having a collection of pricey cars, however the key thing to this accusation is some artistic gold leaf art that is said to have cost a significant amount, given it's size.
Things are worsened by the fact Kazunori Ioka, Kazuto's father, is accused of claiming medical expense from the local government in relation to the Osteopathic Council. That accusation has included Mr Ioka of lying about a surgery to claim money Worryingly for Mr Ioka is that fact that an acquaintance has been in a similar situation, in what has been notable news in Japan.
Whilst both parties may be totally innocent there is rarely smoke without fire and this sort of thing, even if they are innocent it's likely that Ioka's popularity will take a hit here and could see a small number of fans turn away from him. Of course if the Ioka's are guilty we expect to see a lot more than a handful of disgruntled fans.
