IBF Minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama (26-6-0-1, 10) looked in excellent condition earlier today as he had a public work out for ahead of his world title defence next Wednesday.
Takayama is putting the final touches to his preparation ahead of his bout with Shin Ono (17-5-2, 2) and looked all but ready to go.
Although he didn't spar for the cameras we believe Takayama had already been involved in more than 100 rounds of sparring, including some rounds with members of the Kinki University. What he did do instead was spend several minutes shadow boxing under the watchful eye of mentor Hiroaki Nakade, who was apparently the man responsible for the lack of sparring.
With almost everything for the bout sorted it seems the only thing left for Takayama to do is make weight. At the moment Takayama is just 400 grams, less than a pound, over the 105lb Minimumweight limit and we really cannot imagine him struggling to lose that by Tuesday. Interestingly it seems Takayama has been enjoying his food recently and just over a week ago he was blogging about a steak he had eaten, suggesting that weight really is no issue at all for "Lightning Kid".
