Late yesterday we reported that Japanese sources had began to report that a deal was in place for Yukinori Oguni (18-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] to fight IBF Super Bantamweight world champion Jonathan Guzman (22-0-0-1, 22) on New Year's Eve. That bout was confirmed several hours later by Oguni's promoter Kadoebi, who have released a poster for the bout and stated that it is signed and sealed.
Interestingly whilst the bout is made there is strangely still a lack concrete details in regards to the contest with the promoter themselves admitting that they don't know where the bout will take place, though the expectation is either Tokyo on a Watanabe promotion to be televised on TV Tokyo, or Osaka, on an Ioka card televised by TBS. There is however a chance they will run it by themselves, or even sell it to another TV company all together, which would really make the end of the year a bit too crazy.
The poster released by Kadoebi shows the two fighters, with Kadoebi posing with his Japanese and OPBF belts, and features the date of the bout along with the fighters names in front of an ominous looking background, a background that perhaps sums up the fear that Guzman brings to the ring.
Although a poster for the bout has been released the general feeling is that the show it's self will have a different poster, and that this effort will be forgotten come December, with even Kadoebi likely to forget about it. Saying that we rather like it, though it does perhaps lack in the fact that it doesn't feature Guzman's IBF title, which is the belt the two men will actually be fighting for at the end of the year, a big over-sight if you ask us.
Yukinori Oguni Vs Jonathan Guzman set for December 31st?
