Today in Japan the press were invited to the final signing ceremony for the WBO super Flyweight world title bout between defending champion Naoya Inoue (12-0, 10) [井上 尚弥] and Mexican-American Ricardo Rodriguez (16-3, 5). The press conference wasn't the most tense but did reveal quite a bit about "The Monster" and continue to show his relationship with promoter, manager and mentor Hideyuki Ohashi.
The event saw Mr Ohashi, and Inoue, further suggest there was a deal in place for Naoya to make his US debut in September if he over-comes Rodriguez. It seems obvious, from previous comment as welll what was said as the press confeence, that Inoue is pencilled in to fight in the US in September and if he's to suffer a set back here againdt Rodriguez it would pretty much scupper those plans instantly.
As for Rodriguez he seemed confident of scoring the upset. He accepted that Inoue was a great champion, but he seemed to suggest that he was taking the title back with him and showedreal confidence. It is worth noting however that he is the big betting under-dog for the bout.
The Monster looks to devour Rodriguez!
