Whilst December 31st is a huge day for Japanese boxing fans it's fair to say that December 30th is another notable day will a brilliant match up between Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9) [井上 尚弥] and Kohei Kono (32-9-1, 13) [河野 公平], with Inoue looking to continue his reign as the WBO Super Flyweight champion.
Today, ahead of their bout, the two men took part in their physical for the bout with both men being very similar physically. In fact the most notable size difference was a 3cm neck difference for Kono and a 2.6cm difference in height, with Kono again being the bigger man.
Despite the similarities in size this is likely to be a bout where skills are the key and Inoue is the more skilled, and naturally gifted fighter. Not only that but he seemed to suiggest that he was in the best shape he's been in some time, rather than the over-trained fighter he's been recently. Saying that however Kono is no push over and is a 2-time world champion looking to secure his legacy and his biggest win and looked in great shape for the bout, making it clear he's been cutting no corners.
Inoue takes on Kono, will we see the return of a hungry monster?
