Late on Saturday in Mexican fans got the chance to see tough Japanese fighter Hurricane Futa (20-6-1, 11) take on his most notable opponent so far, former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (59-10, 49).
The bout was a huge mismatch on paper, with many giving Futa no chance to even see out the distance but he did just that, showing his toughness, and managed to hold his own at times against the heavy handed Gonzalez.
From the opening round Gonzalez did look that little but better but Futa refused to be intimidated and spent much of the fight trying to get inside his well established opponent, who struggled when the fighters were up close. It was during those moments where Futa was up close that he managed to have real success, marking up Gonzalez in the profess.
Despite the brave and gutsy effort from Futa he was rocked hard in round 12 with Gonzalez's power taking it's effect, but he did see out the storm to hear the final bell, en route to a wide unanimous decision loss.
