At the end of May Japanese promoter Morioka revealed that they had scheduled a press conference for June 2nd, with the key announcement being the next bout in the career of the mega-touted Japanese youngster Hinata Maruta (2-0, 1) [丸田 陽七太].
Earlier today that press conference went ahead with Morioka announcing all the details of Maruta's next bout, the headline contest on "Art of Boxing 2".
The bout will see Maruta face off against unbeaten Filipino Wilbert Berondo (10-0, 4) in a 10 round contest for the WBC Youth Bantamweight title, in a bout to be staged on July 31st at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center.
As predicted by many Maruta will be in his first title bout, and will be looking to prove his ability in a 10 rounder against a more experienced and unbeaten opponent. He will, of course, be strongly favoured going in to that bout however the unbeaten Berondo is a real unknown with one of our Filipino boxing sources admitting that he didn't know any much about Berondo.
What is known about the Filipino is that he is a 20 year old whodebuted in 2014. To date he has yet to face a fighter with a winning record and his most notable wins are over Arjet Caballes and Ricky Oyan, not exactly stiff competition. Although the under-dog Berondohas gone 8 rounds twice and with 53 rounds to his name he has fought in almost 8 times as many rounds as the 19 year Japanese wunderkind.
As well as the main event it was also announced that the promising Japanese based Korean Teiru Atsumi (10-1, 4), who is looking to build on his upset win against Sho Nakazawa, will be in the chief support bout.
