The WBC, live them or hate, are currently having their general assembly in Florida and there has been a number of fighters from around the world attending. One of those attendees is Japnese teenager Hinata Maruta (4-0, 3) [丸田 陽七太] who didn't just attend as the WBC Youth Bantamweight champion but also as an award winner.
The Morioka gym prospect was awarded the 2016 honour of WBC Youth Male Fighter of the Year.
Maruta has had a great year in 2016. He has fought 3 times during and scored 3 stoppages, beating Krungsing Kaolamlekgym, Wilbert Berondo and Joe Tejones. Those wins have seen him claim the WBC Youth Bantamweight title, with his 6th round KO win of Wilbert Berondo in July, and make the first defense of the belt, with his 7th round KO win against Joe Tejones.
Not only were the performance each a step forward but they have seriously impressed those who have seen him and even saw Rex Walker compare Maruta to Floyd Mayweather.
Whilst 2017 is set to be a huge year for Maruta it's fair to say that 2016 has seen him make a statement and the youngster is starting to get more recognition by those in the international boxing community.
