Earlier this year we saw Jonathan Guzman (22-0-0-1, 22) travel to Japan and claim the IBF Super Bantamweight title as he decimated a game Shingo Wake. Tomorrow Guzman returns to a Japanese ring as he takes on challenger Yukinori Oguni (18-1-1, 7) [小國 以載].
Coming in to the bout the champion might be the visitor but he is a very clear betting favourite with the bookies pricing the unbeaten Dominican puncher at between 1/9 and 1/16, showing true belief in the champion who has impressed in a number of recent bouts. The little known Oguni, who really is an unknown outside of Asia, is a very big priced under-dog with most bookies pricing him at 6/1 and some even going as high as to offer a 10/1 return, almost suggesting that particular bookie is giving him no chance at all.
Whilat Oguni is the under-dog it's interesting that the Over/Under for the bout has been set at 9.5 rounds. Of course, given Guzman's destructive reputation, the under is the better favourite and has been priced at 1/2 whilst the over is 6/4, suggesting that the bookies feel Oguni may be able to last a while with Guzman, and Guzman's power.
For those interested in the draw that has been set at 28/1.
