Earlier this year the WBC ordered a bout between Takashi Miura (30-3-2, 23) [三浦 隆司] and Mexican veteran Miguel Roman (56-11, 43), it seems however that the two are going different routes and will instead take different bouts.
Instead of the ordered bout it seems more likely that we'll see Miura in with Orlando Salido (43-13-4-1, 30), with Steve Kim reporting that Golden Boy, on behalf of Salido, were in talks with Teiken to match Salido with Miura. The winner of that would then get a crack at the winner of a bout between Roman and Francisco Vargas (23-0-2, 17), likely next year.
Although nothing is set in stone it seems likely that Golden Boy will be pushing for the Miura Vs Salido bout to take place in the US, with HBO backing the bout, for later this year, with one source suggesting a possible November 20th date.
For Miura the bout would see him back on US soil and back in against a world class fighter, allowing US fans another treat. For Salido the bout would see him again fighting a world class opponent, and give him a clear alternative to a rematch with Vasyl Lomachenko, which had been rumoured a few weeks ago. For both men however the key would be to win and get a rematch with Vargas, who beat Miura in one of the best fights of 2015 and fought to a draw with Salido earlier this year.
In all honesty any combination of bouts featuring Miura, Salido, Vargas and Roman are likely to be fire works and we'd seriously look forward to any possible permutation of those 4 men.
