According to sources in Thailand Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (29-4-1, 15) [ศักดิ์กรีรินทร์] will be permanently returning to the Light flyweight division for the foreseeable future.
Back in March we reported that Sakkreerin Jr would be facing Filipino fighter Lester Abutan (9-4-3, 5) in his next bout, which will take place on May 22nd in Thailand. That bout will see Sakkreerin and Abutan battle for the IBF Pan Pacific Light Flyweight title. The hope for Sakkreerin, and his team, seems to be to move towards a potential bout with IBF Light Flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi (23-5, 12) [八重樫 東].
A win over Abutan won't make Sakkreerin Jr the mandatory for Yaegashi, though it will help strengthen his case, and should help him remain high in the IBF rankings, where he will need to remain for a world title fight.
Of course before Sakkreerin's bout with Abutan we will actually see Yaegashi made the first defense of his title as he faces Mexican puncher Martin Tecuapetla (13-6, 10), with that bout coming on May 8th, 2 weeks before Sakkreerin's bout. If both win it seems likely that they will begin negotiations for a bout later in the year, possibly even this coming summer.
