Earlier today the Watanabe gym posted an image from a recent training session from their gym that showed two of their Middleweights sparring ahead of big up coming bouts.
The more well known of the two fighters was OPBF and Japanese Middleweight champion Akio Shibata (24-8-1, 10) who preparing to defend his Japanese title on March 26th against hard hitting Yasuyuki Akiyama (10-4-1, 8). Shibata will be hoping to defend his title and move towards a move meaningful bout in the near future however he has been on a tricky run of opposition in recent bouts and does deserve this easy looking bout.
The other fighter in the ring with Shibata was former Japanese Middleweight champion Sanosuke Sasaki (11-3, 5). Sasaki has lost his last 2 bouts and is win-less in more than 2 years however he will be hoping to recapture his old form when he takes on the heavy handed Koki Tyson Maebara (7-1-1, 7) on April 5th. A loss here for Sasaki may well see him retiring despite the fact he is only in his 20's.
Although video of the session hasn't been made available we can only assume the session did both men the world of good ahead of the up coming contests.
