On December 31st we'll see WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-1, 11) [田口良一] defending his title against unbeaten Venezuelan Carlos Canizales (16-0, 13) challenger, who we admit we know very little about.
Yesterday, ahead of the bout, Canizales took part in a public work out and looked incredible hungry to make a name for himself with the fight against Taguchi being a huge chance for him to go from "unknown" to "world champion".
At the work out Canizalez claimed he was going to be taking the belt home, to give to his daughter, and that whilst he wasn't hugely impressed by Taguchi he did accept the champion was a good and strong fighter. He also seemed to be so full of confidence that he stated Taguchi had made a mistake in choosing him as the opponent for his year ending bout.
As for the actual work out Canizales shadow boxed, worked with a rope and went through a session of heatting the heavy bag and the speed ball. He looked shap and quick and appears to have a very nice uppercutt. It is worth noting that estimates from those at the training session have Canizalez to be taller than anticipated, though still shorter than Taguchi.
