Launched earlier this year Boxingraise has been one of the most intriguing and successful attempts at getting Japanese fighters more coverage with bouts being streamed live, and shown on recorded delay, via the boxingraise website. The subscription based service has had it's issues, with a lack of live cards being a major complaint, but when it's done things well it really has done things well, and has done so at a rock bottom price of just ¥980 a month.
Whilst many hard fans in Japan have taken up the service others have perhaps been unsure of it, or it's long quality. To put those fears to rest Dangan have released a free to view sample of their first main event, the amazing war between Japanese Flyweight champion Takuya Kogawa [粉川 拓也] and veteran challenger Masafumi Otake [大嶽 正史].
When the bout took place, and was streamed live, we described it as a "FOTY contender" and as a "thrilling contest" and with Dangan offering the bout up for free now it gives everyone a chance to see it in it's glory. And we're not kidding it was the perfect main event to kick off the then new Boxingraise service. With the action and excitement it's a great sample for Dangan to share and to try entice future custom and the perfect way for the company to introduce the service to those who didn't take it up to begin with.
For those interested in watching the full fight it's available here http://boxingraise.com/sample. What isn't clear is how long the bout will remain free, or whether Dangan will, in the future, put more videos up on a free sample basis. It they were to do that they'd have plenty of other great options to do it with and they could rotate through a number of bouts.
...now if only we could have a few more live shows folks!
