Tomorrow Japanese fans in Tokyo will get the chance to see Japanese Welterweight champion Toshio Arikawa (13-4, 11) [有川 稔男] make the first defence of his title as he takes on veteran Yasuhiro Okawa (14-12-3, 5) [大川泰弘]. Whilst the bout is the first defense for Arikawa it is a rematch between the two men, with Okawa looking to repeat the result of the first bout whilst Arikawa seeks revenge for one of his 4 defeats.
Today the two men took part in their weigh in and both made the limit with Okawa coming in just under the limt and Arikawa making the limit with some room to spare.
For the challenger the bout is a second title shot, following a loss earlier this year to Nobuyuki Shindo, it is however a shot against a man he has beaten and he'll be confident of becoming a champion at last and giving his long career a real crowning moment. For Arikawa however the bout serves as a chance for him to increase his standing in the sport on the back of wins over the likes of Akinori Watanabe and Shindo, with with Arikawa looking incredibly destructive recently.
Sadly the bout doesn't appear to be set to be shown anywhere, however there is hope that fan-cam footage will be released in the days that follow.
