According to sources to Thailand it appears a deal is almost set for the rematch between IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (17-0, 5) [อำนาจ รื่นเริง] and mandatory challenger Johnriel Casimero (21-3, 13).
At the moment we've been told that the bout is being eyed for May with Kiatkreerin just looking to sort out issues in regards to TV and venue.
The bout is currently expected to take place in Thailand and was being made after last year's highly controversial bout between the two men.
Last year we saw Amnat retain his title with a foul filled win against Casimero. The bout saw Amnat headbutt, his low, grab and even commit wrestling style take downs on the Filipino. Although the Thai was deducted a point late in the bout, by referee Larry Doggett, it was far too little far too late when the champion could easily have been DQ'd for his actions.
Whilst we suspect many will be glad to hear that Casimero is set to get a rematch with Amnat we also suspect plenty will feel a little bit disappointed that Amnat will be out of the Summer sweepstakes to face the likes of Roman Gonzalez and others will feel non-plussed by this news given that Amnat did, when he boxed, seem a level above the Filipino, who wasn't just out muscled.
We have been told that as soon as the venue and TV are sorted we'll see the bout announced, and that could well be in the next week or two, with a slim possibility that Kiatkreerin will announce the bout after their show on March 25th.
