On May 21st we'll see IBF Light Flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi (25-5, 13) [八重樫 東] battle against interim champion Milan Melindo (35-2, 12) in what looks like a thrilling match up on paper.
Today, ahead of that bout, Yaegashi took part in a public work out and really went through the grind with trainer Koji Matsumoto, who seemed happy to push his charge hard through the session.
The exciting warrior gave some comments to the media before the work out and stated that he knows Melindo is a highly skilled fighter, and is expecting a very tough match up here. But it sounds like Yaegashi and his team are confident of coming out on top here. If they do Mr Ohashi is open to unification bout with other Japanese world champions at Light Flyweight, and in fact by the time Yaegashi fights on Sunday there is a chance all 4 world title will be held by Japanese fighters.
The training session saw Yaegashi shadowbox, work the mitts and then work the heavy bag, all the while showing great movement and a real hunger to make the most of his upcoming bout and move towards proving himself as the best Light Flyweight on the planet.
