May 14th 2016-Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, Hong Kong S.A.R., China Jay Solmiano (17-3-1, 13) vs Jumbo Oda Nobunaga Shoten Petagine (9-3, 7) Way back in 2016 the then promising Filipino fighter Jay Solmiano battled with Japan's Takahiro Oda, then fighting as Jumbo Oda Nobunaga Shoten Petagine in Hong Kong, as part of a stacked card featuring notable names like Rex Tso and Ryota Murata. Interestingly Solmiano would only fight once more after this bout whilst whilst Nobunaga fought as recently as 2020. This version of the fight has been uploaded by DEF Promotions, who worked on the show in Hong Kong and were the main force behind boxing picking up in the country. October 18th 2003-M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom In Jin Chi (27-2, 16) vs Michael Brodie (35-1, 23) I In recent years British fans have had it lucky in terms of how many high profile bouts take place on it's shores. That hasn't always been the case, though the UK has regularly hosted some of the most exciting bouts, regardless of profile. One of the most exciting in living memory came in October 2003 at the at the M.E.N. Arena, when local favourite Michael Brodie clashed in a war with Korean visitor In Jin Chi [지인진] for the WBC Featherweight title. If you like bouts that are brutal, punishing and full of action this is a must watch! (Note this is the second "higher quality" video of this fight we've included, unlike the other one this is actually full screen and not a boxed version like the Matchroom one!) August 14th 2010-Laredo Energy Arena, Laredo, Texas, USA Ji Hoon Kim (21-5, 18) Vs Miguel Vazquez (25-3, 12) In 2010 exciting Korean warrior Ji Hoon Kim [김지훈] travelled over to the US for the biggest fight of his life, as he took on slippery and skilled Mexican fighter Miguel Vazquez in a bout for the vacant IBF Lightweight title. November 24th 2018-Mark G. Etess Arena, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA Dmitry Bivol (14-0, 11) vs Jean Pascal (33-5-1-1, 20) Way back in November 2016 we saw Kyrgyzstan born Russian Dmitry Bivol [дмитрий бивол] take on Jean Pascal, in what was a WBA Light Heavyweight defense for the unbeaten Bivol. July 20th 2016-EDION Arena Osaka, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Shingo Wake (20-4-2, 12) Vs Jonathan Guzman (21-0-0-1, 21) Way back in July 2016 Japan's Shingo Wake [和氣 慎吾] battled the big hitting Jonathan Guzman in a bout for the vacant IBF Super Bantamweight title. February 17th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Katsunori Nagamine (10-1, 6) vs Kenya Yamashita (8-1, 5) One of the forgotten gems of 2016 in Japan was a Super Flyweight clash between Katsunori Nagamine [長嶺克則] and Kenya Yamashita [山下賢哉]. This had drama, excitement, skills and is well worth watching, especially if you're missing boxing during these barren weeks where fights are few and far between. February 17th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Shingo Wake (19-4-2, 11) Vs Waldo Sabu (7-2, 2) Back in 2016 Japanese fight fans at Korakuen Hall saw the then IBF #1 ranked Super Bantamweight Shingo Wake [和氣慎吾] battle against Indonesian Waldo Sabu in what was, for all intents, a tune up bout for Wake. Around 5 months after this bout Wake managed to get a shot at the IBF title, taking on the hard hitting Jonathan Guzman at the EDION Arena Osaka. September 20th 2010-Super Arena, Saitama, Saitama, Japan Takashi Uchiyama (15-0, 12) vs Roy Mukhlis (23-2-2, 18) In January 2010 Takashi Uchiyama [内山 高志] claimed the WBA Super Featherweight title, stopping Juan Carlos Salgado. In his second defense he took on Indonesian challenger Roy Mukhlis, a 23 year old who was looking to follow in the footsteps of Chris John and become an Indonesian world champion.
