February 25th 2015- SP Stainless Sport Ground, Bangkok, Thailand Kongputorn CPFreshmart (7-0, 5)* Vs Kompetch Twins Gym (0-4)** Regular visitors will know we really rate Thai youngster Kongputorn CPFreshmart, a young Thai who may be the best prospect in Thailand. The talented and destructive puncher has looked sensational so far in his career though has faced less than testing foes. The most recent of those foes was Kompetch Twins Gym who tried to fight back again Kongputorn and certainly wasn't in the ring just to make up the numbers. *We KNOW Boxrec.com are missing 2 of Kongputorn's previous bout, as well as this one. One of those bouts was his debut victory against Veeradej Manoprungroj whilst the other was his win over his win over Jomyuthlek sor Narongchai, not to be confused with another of Kongputorn's bouts against a Sor Narongchai fighter. **Kompetch's record also appears to have missing bouts, unfortunately we're uncertain on the specifics though it seems hard to believe that he has been a professional since 2010 and only fought 4 times, especially when we look at his competition in some of those recorded bouts. February 25th 2015- SP Stainless Sport Ground, Bangkok, Thailand Palangpol CP Freshmart (7-1, 4) vs Bimbo Nacionales (12-8-1, 2) Sometimes when we see a fight on paper we expect it'll be over before the scheduled distance. One such bout saw the deceptively heavy handed Palangpol CP Freshmart, who hits much harder than his record indicates, battling against the chinny Bimbo Nacionales who had been stopped 7 times in his 21 fight career, previous to this bout. It seemed less a case of "will Nacionales be stopped?" and more of a case of "when, will Nacionales be stopped?" We're hoping to see more of those eye catching shots this year though they obviously won't come in every bout. Kongfah's second bout of 2015 saw him taking on the experienced but limited Geboi Mansalayao in a bout that was expected to get the promising Kongfah some rounds. *Kongfah's boxrec record misses a known win from late 2014 against an as yet unidentified opponent. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 25th 2015- SP Stainless Sport Ground, Bangkok, Thailand Ratchasak KKP (25-3-1, 11) vs Junior Bajawa (14-4, 7) Experienced Thai Ratchasak KKP made a bit of a name for himself in 2014 when he twice dropped Rex Tso in Macau. Although he came up short in that bout he has been successful since with regular fights. The most recent of those came against Indonesian visitor Junior Bajawa, who entered on a 3 fight losing streak. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 24th 2015- Municipality of Klong 6, Klongluang District, Pathum Thani, Thailand Jirapan Nakornluang (2-0) vs Philipo Piatada (0-0) Later last year we saw the debut of Jirapan Nakornluang who looked really good for a debutant. Since then Jirapan has fought twice with the most recent of those bouts coming against Philipo Piatada, who we believe was an Italian debutant. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 27th 2015-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Shingo Wake (17-4-2, 10) Vs Jimmy Paypa (16-2-1, 6) Japanese fighter Shingo Wake was known to have been targeting a world title fight in 2014. Unfortunately for the fighter he was unable to land such a bout last year and instead he continued his chase into the new year. His first challenge for 2015 was getting by Jimmy Paypa who was on a 14-0-1 (6) run having not lost since he was narrowly out pointed by John Paul Bautista way back in 2010. This was to be Wake's 5th defence of the OPBF Super Bantamweight title and Paypa's first challenge for a title. (Video thanks to gentidori) February 24th 2015- Municipality of Klong 6, Klongluang District, Pathum Thani, Thailand Nawaphon Por Chokchai (25-0, 18) Vs Powell Balaba (8-12-1, 5) Thailand's Nawaphon Por Chokchai is heading towards a Flyweight world title bout at some point in the near future. To stay active he has continued to fight in bouts that are effectively stay busy contests with the most recent of those coming against Filipino journeyman Powell Balaba. On paper this was a mismatch though it seems like Nawaphon was using it to get used to a southpaw opponent more than anything else. As a result it was a less than inspiring bout. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 24th 2015- Municipality of Klong 6, Klongluang District, Pathum Thani, Thailand Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (39-6-1, 18) Vs Samuel Tehuayo (18-32-2, 3) II We often bemoan about the quality of match ups in Thailand but one thing we can't complain about is the activity of the guys who make their name there. It was just 4 months ago that Suriyan Sor Rungvisai lost in a world title challenger to Shinsuke Yamanaka, since then he has fought 3 times with the most recent coming earlier this week when he had a rematch with tough Indonesian Samuel Tehuayo, AKA Sammy Hagler. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) November 9th 2012- Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore, Singapore Arnel Tinampay (19-15-1, 6) Vs Yosuke Kirima (15-2-2, 11) In recent times we've become aware that Filipino fighters can have some very deceiving records. This has been shown with fighters like Rey Loreto, Sonny Boy Jaro and Rey Megrino. When a Filipino fighter has a poor record we cannot write them off. Another fighter who proves this is Arnel Tinampay who has become a bogey man to Japanese fighters in recent years. For some fans their first chance to see Tinampay in action was his bout against former Japanese Light Middleweight title challenger Yosuke Kirima. The first 15 seconds of this bout, on the under-card of the Chris John Vs Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo fight, certainly should have made Japanese fighters aware of Tinampay and his under-rated power. November 9th 2012- Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore, Singapore Qiu Xiao Jun (5-1, 1) Vs Hwi Jong Kim (5-7, 1) Nobody will try to pretend that boxing is huge in China however the country certainly has some promising fighters including Qiu Xiao Jun who is possibly the most promising Chinese fighter plying his trade on the Chinese mainland. Jun isn't a big name though has developed into a very good fighter and is now world ranked. For many fans their first chance to see Jun was back in 2012 when he fought South Korean fighter Hwi Jong Kim on an undercard of a show headlined by Chris John's fight with Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo. |
