November 7th 2019-Super Arena, Saitama, Saitama, Japan Naoya Inoue (18-0, 16) Vs Nonito Donaire (40-5, 26) We got the WBSS Bantamweight final almost a year ago today, and it saw Japanese star Naoya Inoue [井上 尚弥] take on legendary Filipino Nonito Donaire. The bout was for the IBF, WBA "super" and Ring Magazine titles, and the Muhammad Ali trophy and turned out to be one of the very best bouts of 2019. A truly brilliant fight with everything. It had boxing, drama, controversy and everything we could ever wish to see in a bout.

October 30th 2020-USC Soviet Wings, Moscow, Russia Turat Osmonov (3-0, 3) vs Mutrib Karambakhshov (0-3) Yesterday in Moscow the unbeaten Turat Osmonov, from Kyrgyzstan, took on Russian based Tajik Mutrib Karambakhshov, who was looking to claim his first professional win. October 30th 2020-USC Soviet Wings, Moscow, Russia Firuza Sharipova (11-1, 6) vs Sara Marjanovic (7-7, 3) This past Friday in Moscow enigmatic Kazakh female fighter Firuza Sharipova [фируза шарипова] took on limited Serbian foe Sara Marjanovic. July 22nd 1995-Changchung Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea Hyung Chul Lee (19-4, 15) vs Alimi Goitia (11-0, 8) I In July 1995 Hyung Chul Lee [이형철], the then WBA Super Flyweight champion was involved in a hugely controversial bout against Venezuelan challenger Alimi Goitia. Chul, seeking his second defense, appears to have a very legitimate complaint here following a terrible bit of officiating by French referee Armand Krief. Notably the two men would rematch 7 months later following the bizarre ending. October 30th 2020-USC Soviet Wings, Moscow, Russia Firuza Sharipova (11-1, 6) vs Sara Marjanovic (7-7, 3) Earlier today in Moscow Kazakh female fighter Firuza Sharipova [фируза шарипова] faced off with Sara Marjanovic. October 7th 2018-Arena, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan Kiryl Relikh (22-2, 19) vs Eduard Troyanovsky (27-1, 24) In 2019 the Arena in Yokohama played host to two WBSS bouts. One of those saw Belorussian Kiryl Relikh take on Eduard Troyanovsky. Although the bout didn't feature an Asian it's fair to say the fans in Yokohama didn't complain, given that local hero Naoya Inoue was on the same show, and so to was Light Flyweight world champion Kenshiro Teraji. April 27th 2019-Cajun Dome, Lafayette, Louisiana, USA Nonito Donaire (39-5, 25) vs Stephon Young (18-1-3, 7) In 2019 we had the Bantamweight World Boxing Super Series. One of the scheduled semi-finals was supposed to see WBA champion Nonito Donaire take on WBO champion Zolani Tete. Sadly however Tete got injured close to the date of the fight, and rather than scrap the thing, and give Donaire a bye to the final, the organisers matched the Filipino with reserve opponent Stephon Young, who then got the biggest fight of his life in a major step up in class. |
