July 7th 2008- Juan Convention Wedding Hall, Incheon, South Korea Young Kil Bae (8-2, 4) Vs Richard Garcia (16-9, 4) Korean fighter Young Kil Bae, AKA Myung Goo Yuh, is currently penciled in for a world title fight in June. Here we look at one of his first title bouts, a contest with Filipino foe Richard Garcia who fought Bae for the interim PABA Flyweight title way back in 2008. April 23rd 2011- Seodaejeon Square, Daejeon, South Korea Young Kil Bae (9-3-1, 4) Vs Roque Lauro (6-8-1) Earlier today we were informed that Young Kil Bae would be challenging Wanheng Menayothin for the WBC Minimumweight title. Later, thanks to Jake Donovan, we were made aware that Bae had previously fought as "Myung Goo Yuh" that made finding footage slightly easier and we came across this bout from 4 years ago, when Yuh fought Filipino for Roque Lauro. Note-A this was filmed outside there is a "windy" sound to the recording. We're sorry about that. April 28th-Thailand Nawaphon Por Chokchai (26-0, 19) Vs Dion Arema (3-3, 2) Thailand's Nawaphon Por Chokchai has been one of the few fighters actively chasing a fight with Roman Gonzalez though unfortunately he's been made to wait for the shot at Chocolatito. Due to that wait Nawaphon has been staying busy and recently took on Indonesian foe Dion Arema in a bout just to keep the rust off. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) April 28th 2015- Thailand Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (40-6-1, 18) Vs Yodpichai Sithsaithong (10-12, 4) World class Thai Suriyan Sor Rungvisai continued his busy level of activity this past Tuesday as he took on fellow Thai Yodpichai Sithsaithong in a bout that looked like a total mismatch from the second it was announced. Whilst no one expected an upset it was Suriyan's third bout of 2015 and it's clear that he's remaining as active as he can until he gets another major bout, hopefully later in the year. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) April 22nd 2015- Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Sho Ishida (18-0, 10) Vs Taiki Eto (14-3, 10) Through his first 15 fights Sho Ishida had rarely lost a round. He had struggled in fight #16 as he claimed the Japanese Super Flyweight title, with a very well earned win over Yohei Tobe, but that was expected as he had his first taste of a title bout. In his second defense of that title Ishida took on Taiki Eto, a man who had been stopped by Tobe. Given their relative results against Tobe we had expected this to be a foregone conclusion however this turned out to be much more competitive than we had anticipated. (Video courtesy of yossy112311) April 26th 2015- Industrial Hall, Gifu, Gifu, Japan Genki Hanai (3-0, 2) Vs Bonis Purba (3-3-1, 3) Unbeaten Japanese prospect Genki Hanai might not be a "super prospect" but the Gifu youngster is still regarded as a future world title challenger. This past weekend we saw Hanai take part in his 4th pro bout as he took on Indonesian visitor Bonis Purba. Incidentally Purba was the third choice opponent for Hanai after Boy Tanto and Demsi Manufoe dropped out of the bout. (Video courtesy of lessons for the heart) December 31st 2014- Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Tomomi Takano (6-1, 5) Vs Rathsada Sor Worasin (0-3) December 31st last year was a very busy day with 5 world title fights and copious other bouts of note. One of those bouts of note was a female bout between boxing model Tomomi Takano and Thai visitor Rathsada Sor Worasin. The bout was, on paper, a mismatch between a tall puncher and a diminutive win-less fighter in the end however it turned out to be an entertaining bout with the visitor showing no fear despite a clear size differential. December 31st 2014- Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Sho Ishida (17-0, 9) Vs Masato Morisaki (9-3-1, 5) The Japanese scene at 115lbs is really interesting at the moment with numerous fighters of note such as Naoya Inoue and Kohei Kono. Another man hoping to make it to that level is Sho Ishida who made his first defense of the Japanese title last December when he took on the over-matched Masato Morisaki. For those who missed that bout here it is in it's entirety. November 25th 2014- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Daishi Nagata (0-0-1) Vs Jeffrey Arienza (12-2-1, 7) On his debut Daishi Nagata fought to a draw with Takeshi Inoue, rather than being given an easy bout for fight #2 Nagata was thrown in with the very capable, and much more experienced, Jeffrey Arienza of the Philippines. It was a tough, tough match up on paper and proved to be tough and competitive in the ring. (Footage courtesy of 永田大士) |
