February 1st 1978-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Soo Hwan Hong (40-4-3, 14) vs Yu Kasahara (12-0, 9) In 1978 WBA Super Bantamweight champion Soo Hwan Hong [홍수환] travelled over to Tokyo to take on unbeaten Japanese challenger Yu Kasahara [笠原優] July 17th 1985-Masan Gymnasium, Masan, South Korea Jong Kwan Chung (12-8-3, 3) vs Soon Chun Kwon (26-3-2, 17) II In January 1985 Jong Kwan Chung [정종관] challenged IBF Flyweight champion Soon Chun Kwon [권순천]. The two had a rematch in July that year, and then actually went on to have a third clash. This is their second meeting, that came just a few months after their first clash. January 23rd 1981-Busan, South Korea Sang Hyun Kim (32-3-2, 20) vs Kwang Min Kim (18-2-1, 7) II In 1981 former world champion Sang Hyun Kim [김상현] clashed with former world title challenger Kwang Min Kim [김광민], in what was a rematch of their 1980 contest, which had seen Sang Hyun Kim take a decision over his countryman. May 7th 1987-Changchung Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea Soo Hwan Hong (41-4-3, 14) vs Ricardo Cardona (15-4-1, 9) In 1987 Soo Hwan Hong [홍수환], the then WBA Super Bantamweight champion, took on Ricardo Cardoona, from Colombia. November 1976-Changchung Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea Royal Kobayashi (21-2, 18) vs Dong Kyun Yum (46-2-6, 20) In 1976 Royal Kobayashi [ロイヤル小林], the then WBC Super Bantamweight champion travelled over to Korea to make his first defense, taking on local veteran Dong Kyun Yum [염동균]. Sadly this is a very incomplete version of the fight, with only a round of footage, but given the quality and rareness of the bout we felt it was worthy of inclusion. June 3rd 1979-Jangchung Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea Sang Hyun Kim (27-2-2, 17) vs Fitzroy Guisseppi (33-13-3, 17) Way back in 1979 Sang Hyun Kim [김상현] made his first defense of the WBC Light Welterweight title, which he had taken from Saensak Muangsurin. In the opposite corner to the Korean was Fitzroy Guisseppi February 13th 1993-Yeoju, South Korea Chang Jae Kwon (5-1, 4) vs Sung Jong Hong (0-0) In early 1993 future OPBF champion Chang Jae Kwon [권창재] battled Sung Jong Hong [홍성종] in a contest for the South Korean Flyweight title. April 22nd 1981-Changchung Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea Deuk Koo Kim (8-1-1, 3) vs Hong Kyoo Lim (7-0, 3) In the spring of 1981 Korean fans had the chance to see Deuk Koo Kim [김득구], who would tragically lose his life following a bout with Ray Mancini less than 2 years later, battle the then unbeaten Hong Kyoo Lim [임홍규]. April 27th 2019-Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, India Arun Solanki (0-0) vs Batholomew Abuchi Uche (0-2-0-1) In April 2019 the debuting Arun Solanki took on Indian based Nigerian born foe Batholomew Abuchi Uche. |
