August 2nd 2014- Adachi Ward Sogo Sports Center, Tokyo, Japan Daishi Nagata (0-0) Vs Takeshi Inoue (0-0) In Japan many hopeful prospects begin their careers with 6 round bouts rather than the 4 rounders we typically see in the west. Rarely however do we get two good prospects making their debuts against each other. One of those rare cases saw Daishi Nagata battle against Takeshi Inoue in a bout that really was an amazing test for both men and both deserve a lot a credit to both for taking on the other guy (Footage courtesy of by 永田大士)

April 16th 2015- Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Mark John Yap (19-12, 10) Vs Tatsuya Ikemizu (12-0, 5) When it comes to "journey men" we've got to admit we're fans of the ones who enter the ring looking to score the win and looking to upset the prospects they are up against. They impress us so much more than the ones who merely try to make prospects aware of issues they may have. That's why we're big fans of Japanese based Filipino Mark John Yap who always comes to win. He showed that willing spirit recent when he fought the unbeaten Tatsuya Ikemizu, a touted and talented prospect. (Footage courtesy of nov K) *Prior to this fight Yap had gone by the name "Marjohn Yap" September 6th 2013- NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Phissanuthep Chaiyonggym (3-10-1, 2) Vs Yodchanchai Nakornloung Promotion (22-3, 17) In Thailand we see far too many mismatches and often those mismatches don't help prepare a fighter for a step up in class. Sometimes however they turn out to be better in the ring than the records of the men would suggest. That was certainly the case when Phissanuthep Chaiyonggym took on Yodchanchai Nakornloung Promotion and put on a stirring performance. December 31st 2014- Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (21-1-3, 12) Vs Kajonsak Nattapolgym (0-0) On December 31st 2013 we saw Ryo Miyazaki being shocked by Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr. It was a huge upset loss for the Japanese fight and one that really left us all with questions about his future. Exactly a year later Miyazaki was in the ring against an unknown Thai, this time Kajonsak Nattapolgym and this time Miyazaki knew he couldn't possibly afford a loss. April 22nd 2015- Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (22-1-3, 13) Vs Namphol Sithsaithong (7-9, 5) Former WBA Minimumweight champion Ryo Miyazaki is said to be pursuing a Light Flyweight world title bout later in the year. As a tune up for that Miyazaki took on Thai visitor Namphol Sithsaithong. (Video courtesy of yossy112311) December 8th 2014- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Keita Obara (12-1, 11) Vs Rodel Wenceslao (8-9-1, 2) Heavy handed Japanese fighter Keita Obara has often commented that he struggles to make 140lbs. Last year he got the chance to take of the shackles and fight at a more natural 147lbs as he took on Filipino journeyman Rodel Wenceslao in what was a clear mismatch on paper. April 16th 2015- Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Takaaki Maeda (2-1) Vs Takuya Olivia Hase (2-0-1, 1) This bout, from the under-card of Shinsuke Yamanaka's recent world title defence against Diego Ricardo Santillan, sees novices colliding as Takaaki Maeda takes on Takuya Olivia Hase. Whilst the fight might not have fighters you recognise in it, but we suggest you don't blink. (Video courtesy of nov K) April 13th 2015- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Keita Obara (13-1, 12) Vs Yuya Okazaki (11-7-1, 4) A few days ago we posted a fan cam video of the OPBF Light Welterweight title bout between Keita Obara and Yuya Okazaki. He're we've come across the TV broadcast version of the same fight [For those wanting the fan shot version than can be seen here] April 13th 2015- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Kentaro Masuda (21-6, 11) Vs Shohei Omori (13-0, 8) When the 2015 Champion Carnival bouts were announced one stood out. That was the Bantamweight title bout between world ranked Kentaro Masuda title holder, who had impressed in 2014 with 3 good wins including a 3rd round blow out against Konosuke Tomiyama, and young prospect Shohei Omori, who was quickly rising through the ranks and had already been compared with fellow Japanese southpaws Shinsuke Yamanaka and Ryosuke Iwasa. When this one was announced we had expected something very special and very competitive and we'll be honest what we saw was special. December 8th 2014- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Kentaro Masuda (20-6, 11) Vs Tatsuya Takahashi (18-5-3, 13) In late 2014 Japanese fans got a treat when as Kentaro Masuda took on Tatsuya Takahashi in a late contender for domestic fight of the year. Masuda entered the bout as the Japanese champion whilst Takahashi was a relative unknown, by the end however Takahashi was being described as a "Zombie" due to his toughness. Unfortunately we've not managed to find the full fight but here is the televised portion of it as shown on Fuji TV and trust us, this is a real treat. (Note-Not all rounds of this bout were televised) |
