April 14th 1985-Pohang, South Korea Bi Won Jung (14-4-2, 3) vs Soon Jung Kang (20-4-1, 1) II In December 1984 future IBF Flyweight champion Bi Won Jung [정비원] defeated Soon Jung Kang [강순중] via a 10 round decision. Just 4 months later the men would clash for a second time, with Kang to avenge his loss and Jung looking to push his career forward. Whilst Jung is known for winning a world title it is worth noting that years after this bout Kang would himself get a world title fight, clashing with German Torres for the WBC Light Flyweight title in 1989.

October 13th 1995-Namyangju, South Korea Young Jin Kim (15-2-1, 8) vs Rolando Toyogon (12-10-2, 2) In October 1995 Korean fighter Young Jin Kim took on Filipino journeyman Rolando Toyogon in Namyangju. Although neither guy is a big name, or too well remembered it is worth noting that Kim would fight for the WBC Flyweight title in 1998, challenging Chatchai Sasakul. As for Toyogon, he would go on to fight through to 2006, ending his career with 56 professional bouts. June 1st 2008-Gapyeong, South Korea Nam Jun Lee (0-0) vs Moon Soo Kim (0-0) Back on Joon 2008 Korean fight fans in Gapyeong had the chance to see Nam Jun Lee make his professional debut, taking on Moon Soo Kim. As we post this in 2021 it's surprising to know that Lee is still an active fight and fought as recently as January 2021, in a thrilling contest with Jong Seon Kang. Kim on the other hand fought just 4 times before ending his career in 2010. March 26th 2021-Media Pro Studios, Medley, Florida, USA Mark Bernaldez (21-4, 15) vs Hector Ruben Ambriz Suarez (12-12-2, 6) Last Friday in Florida Filipino fighter Mark Bernaldez faced off with Mexican fighter Hector Ruben Ambriz Suarez. The match up wasn't a particularly big one, but it really was a must win for Bernaldez who has struggled to build momentum in recent bouts. March 20th 1993-Halla Gymnasium, Jeju, South Korea Young Kyun Park (24-1-1, 13) vs Thanomchit Kiatkriengkrai (21-7, 12) In his 7th defense of the WBA Featherweight title Korean great Young Kyun Park [박영균] took on Thai challenger Thanomchit Kiatkriengkrai, who entered as the WBA #9 ranked challenger. Although not too well remembered now a days, sadly, Park was one of the Korean stars of the early 1990's. He had won the WBA Featherweight title in March 1991, when he beat Antonio Esparragoza, and was a busy champion with this being his 7th defense in less than 2 years! October 7th 2019-Ulan-Ude, Russia Thi Linh Ha vs Megan Reid At the 2019 Women's World Amateur Championships fight fans saw Vietnamese fighter Thi Linh Ha take on Scottish fighter Megan Reid in a bout at 64KG's. March 27th 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Erzhan Turgumbekov (8-1-1, 2) vs Gaibatulla Gadzhialiev (7-2-1, 3) This past Saturday fight fans were able to enjoy an interesting match up between Russian based Kyrgyzstan born Erzhan Turgumbekov [Эржан Туркумбеков] and Russian fighter Gaibatulla Gadzhialiev. This was Turgumbekov's first bout since his sensational 2020 contest against Albert Batyrgaziev. March 27th 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov (16-0, 9) vs Lunga Sitemela (13-0, 7) This past Saturday in Russia we saw world ranked Tajik fighter Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov [Эржан Туркумбеков] clash with South African fighter Lunga Sitemela in a very entertaining 10 rounder for the WBC International Super Featherweight title. The bout was action packed through out, and round 3 in particular was spectacular with both men being hardly. March 27th 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Stanislav Kalitskiy (10-1, 3) vs Pavel Malikov (16-3-1, 6) This past Saturday in Russia we saw Russian based Kazakh fighter Stanislav Kalitskiy face off against the often entertaining Pavel Malikov, with the two men competing in part of a small RCC Boxing Promotions tournament. February 27th 2021-Tynyshpayev Academy of Transport and Communications, Almaty, Kazakhstan Aidos Medet (4-0, 3) vs Bekbossyn Yerkinuly (0-0) Back in February 19 year old Kazakh prospect Aidos Medet battled against debuting teenager Bekbossyn Yerkinuly in a 6 round contest in Almaty. Although not a big bout it was a great chance to see the talented Medet in action. |
