The "Dragon" we looking to extend his incredibly reign as the WBA Featherweight champion as he took on South African challenger Simpiwe Vetyeka.

October 24th 2008-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Chris John (41-0-1, 22) vs Hiroyuki Enoki (27-0-2, 19) In 2008 Indonesian great Chris John travelled to Japan to defend the WBA Featherweight title against unbeaten Japanese challenger Hiroyuki Enoki [榎 洋之]. Although this bout isn't too well remembered it is a bit of a hidden gem, with a lot of nice exchanges as Enoki's pressure went up against the often under-rated boxing skills of John. Both men took punishment. June 4th 2004-Ariake Colosseum Tokyo, Japan Chris John (33-0, 19) vs Osamu Sato (26-2-3,15) In 2004 Indonesian legend Chris John made his first defense of the WBA Featherweight title, as he took on former WBA Super Bantamweight champion Osamu Sato. July 3rd 2003-Indosiar Studio, Jakarta, Indonesia Chris John (31-0, 18) vs Dae Kyung Park (6-2-1, 2) Indonesian great Chris John made 5 defenses of the PABA Featherweight title. The final one of those saw him take on Korean Dae Kyung Park. March 29th 2001-Bogor, Indonesia Chris John (20-0, 10)* Vs Leed Shabu (0-0)* In 1999 Chris John won the Indonesian Featherweight title. He would defend the title over the following few years, with one of those defences coming against Leed Shabu. *Graphic on screen lists John as 19-0 (9) and Shabu as 5-1 (1), onscreen also shows Shabu's name as "Sabu". March 29th 2002- Bandung, Indonesia Chris John (25-0, 14) vs Petcharoon Wor Surapol (6-5, 2) In the 00's Indonesian Chris John would become, arguably, his countries greatest professional boxer, and their longest reigning by far. In 2002 however he was still coming through the ranks and in one of his bouts that year he took on Petcharoon Wor Surapol of Thailand. Note-The on screen graphic lists John as being 24-0 whilst Petcharoon is listed as being 15-4. September 19th 2009- MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Chris John (42-0-2, 22) Vs Rocky Juarez (28-4-1, 20) II In 2009 Chris John made his US debut, fighting to a draw with Rocky Juarez. Later in 2009 the Indonesian returned to America to fight a rematch with Juarez and try secure himself a win on American soil. August 19th 2007-Kobe Fashion Mart, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Chris John (39-0-1, 20) Vs Zaiki Takemoto (21-6-1, 12) Indonesian fighter Chris John fought in Japan several times, one of those bouts saw him travel to Kobe to face Zaiki Takemoto [武本在樹] September 26th 2003-Kartika Plaza Hotel, Kuta, Indonesia Chris John (32-0, 19) Vs Oscar Leon (24-3, 16) For many the most notable bout to feature Chris John was his contest with Juan Manuel Marquez, it is worth noting however that his first world title bout was a contest with Oscar Leon, and it was a bout that was controversial. The contest, which was for the WBA "interim" Featherweight title, later saw the title upgraded after the WBA "regular" and IBF titles were unified by the aforementioned Marquez. April 22nd 2005-Britama Arena, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Indonesia Chris John (34-0-1, 19) Vs Derrick Gainer (39-6-1, 24) One of the most notable bouts to feature Chris John was his bout with former world champion Derrick Gainer. |
