August 21st 2015-Sawan Vegas Hotel Suwannakhet, Laos Kompayak Porpramook (52-5, 37) v Jopher Marayan (7-6-2, 3) When we talk about pound-for-pound we typically mean the most talented, or more skilled fighter on a pound-for-pound basis. Kompayak Porpramook however has made a career out of being, pound-for-pound, one of the sports most exciting fighters. He has had a career that deserves to be remembered for his wars with the likes of Adrian Hernandez and Koki Eto. Now aged 33 Kompayak isn't the fighter he used to be but is still in memorable and exciting wars, as was seen when he took on Jopher Marayan in a bout for the WBA Asia Light Flyweight title. August 21st 2015-Sawan Vegas Hotel Suwannakhet, Laos Kongthara KKP (7-0, 5) Vs Mathias Bernua (0-0) Every so often a Thai prospect catches our eye and leaves us with a sense of excitement. One such fighter was Kongthara KKP. Recently Kongthara faced Mathias Bernua, a genuine unknown. Whilst the fight wasn't a great contest it was another chance to see the exciting Thai hopeful in action. The 15 year old Nampetch has now been a pro for 19 months and although she's still just a baby in the ring she has shown some real improvements since her early days as a fighter. Of course, as can be seen in this fight, she really does still have a very long way to go. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 6th 2015-Macao, Macao S.A.R., China Jestoni Autida (7-3, 3) v Wang Xinghua (11-10-1) The Macau boxing scene is linked strongly to Zou Shiming, Rex Tso and Kuok Kun Ng who have all made their names on shows from Macau held by Top Rank. Notably however Top Rank don't have a monopoly on bouts in the Asian gambling hot bed. On a non-top rank show in the area fans saw Filipino fighter Jestoni Autida battle against Wang Xinghua in an entertaining 6 round scrap. Interestingly just over 2 months later Autida went to Thailand and manage to upset Ratchasak KKP in what is his best win to date. Juen 6th 2015-Forum de Macau, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China Jujeath Nagaowa (12-15-1, 8) v Luo Yu Jie (3-6, 1) Earlier this year Chinese fans had the chance to see local fighter Lou Yu Jie battles against experienced Filipino Jujeath Nagaowa in a bout for the WIBA InternationalLight Flyweight title. The bout, staged in Macau, wasn't the best on paper but it did have it's moments when the two girls were in the ring. They were however on completely different levels. April 22nd- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Naoto Uebayashi (7-0-1, 4) Vs Giovanni Escaner (12-3, 8) One thing we love about Filipino fighters is how under-rated so many. We've seen fighters like Rey Loreto, Sonny Boy Jaro and Rey Megrino all show how their records don't equate to their ability. Another who tried to add himself to that list was Giovanni Escaner who traveled to Japan earlier this year to take on the touted Naoto Uebayashi, a former Japanese amateur who was tipped by some to be a future contender. August 21st 2015- Nonthaburi Pittayakom School, Nonthaburi, Thailand Ronnakit PKT College (3-0, 2) vs Supertop Chalermprakiat Sport (0-0) Thailand's Ronnakit PKT College made his debut earlier this year and appears to have become a genuinely promising young prospect. This past Friday we saw him in action against Supertop Chalermprakiat Sport in a very short lived bout in Nonthanburi. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) August 21st 2015- Nonthaburi Pittayakom School, Nonthaburi, Thailand Teerachai Kratingdaenggym (30-0, 23) v Boitshepo Mandawe (14-6, 10) Thailand's Teerachai Kratingdaenggym is slowly working his way towards a world title fight. Recently the talented 23 year old risked his long unbeaten as he took on Boitshepo Mandawe. The bout, a PABA defense for the Thai, was hoped to be the next step up for him, though in reality it was yet another disappointing match up for the world ranked prospect. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) August 21st 2015-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Masao Nakamura (19-3, 19) Vs Daiki Kaneko (21-4-3, 14) Every so often a bout comes around that the hardcore fans know will be great even if many fans haven't heard of the two men involved in the contest. That was the case when former Japanese Super Featherweight champion Daiki Kaneko fought former OPBF Super Featherweight champion Masao Nakamura. Fight fans at the Korakuen Hall knew they were in for a treat, and what a treat they got. (Video courtesy of Gentidori) June 6th 2015- Forum de Macau, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China Michael Enriquez (10-3-1, 6) Vs Oscar Raknafa (12-9, 5) Earlier this year we saw little known Filipino Michael Enriquez give us a FOTY contender in Macau when he fought Rex Tso, giving a surprisingly spirited effort in a bout that he was merely supposed to make up the numbers in. The Filipino returned to Macau just a few months later as he took on Indonesian fighter Oscar Raknafa in a bout for the WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Light Flyweight title. |
