July 12th 2015- Sunhak Gymnasium Incheon, South Korea Tae Young Yuh (1-0) Vs Ye Eul Kim (0-0) When we think of typical Korean fighters we think of blood and guts warriors with more bravery than skills. This past weekend however we saw an exception to that rule as Ye Eul Kim showed an intelligent side to Korean boxing in his bout against Tae Young Yuh.

July 12th 2015- Sunhak Gymnasium Incheon, South Korea Min Young Kim (1-0-1) v Woo Min Kim (1-1) There is something about Korea that makes us excited to watch fights from the country. We won't pretend that the fighters are the best or anything like that but it's rare to get a bad fight from Korea. That was shown when Min Young Kim fought Woo Min Kim in a 4 round bout as part of AK Promotions "Homecoming" show. Neither fighter looks likely to progress far but they certainly gave us a competitive bout here. July 11th 2015- GETEC Arena Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany Ruslan Chagaev (33-2-1, 20) Vs Francesco Pianeta (31-1-1, 17) Asian Heavyweights are few and far between but the most successful, by far, is Uzbek fighter Ruslan Chagaev. The Uzbek was in action this past weekend defending his WBA "regular" Heavyweight title against German based Italian born fighter Francesco Pianeta in what turned out to be a terrible mismatch, despite the similar looking records of the two men. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Virgel Vitor (4-0, 2) Vs Carlo Demecillo (3-2, 1) One of the televised bouts on this weekend's Pinoy Pride card saw the unbeaten Virgel Vitor battle against Carlo Demecillo in what looked like a well matched bout on paper. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Kevin Jake Cataraja (0-0) Vs Ardi Tefa (6-4, 4) In recent years we've been hearing a lot about Japanese "super prospects" who get fast tracked and look sensational on their debuts. Now it seems like the Philippines have their own "super prospect" in the form of Kevin Jake Cataraja. Cataraja made his debut this past weekend when he took on Indonesian fighter Ardi Tefa and, although he got hit back a few times he really did impress with his composure, shot selection, speed and timing. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Roli Gasca (22-6-1, 6) Vs Rasmanudin (19-9-3, 10) Former OPBF Super Bantamweight champion Roli Gasca may not be a big name but he certainly left an impression this past weekend when he took on Indonesian figher Rasmanudin and ended the fight with possibly the best shot of the whole weeked. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Jorge Kahwagi (11-0, 11)* Vs Ramon Olivas (13-3, 9) The recent Pinoy Pride show featured a bit of an oddity as Mexican politician Jorge Kahwagi took on Ramon Olivas in a Cruiserweight bout. The fight was Kahwagi's first in almost a decade and was a farce from start to end. *Video states Kahwagi was 13-0 (13) entering this bout, boxrec however lists him as 11-0 (11). July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Elmo Traya (8-1, 6) Vs Brayan Macamay (9-2-2, 5) The recent Pinoy Pride card featured a number of under-card bouts, one of which was a well matched bout between Elmo Traya and Brayan Macamay. The bout wasn't a headline level bout but it was a very interesting under-card contest. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Mark Magsayo (10-0, 8) Vs Rafael Reyes (16-4, 12) Touted Filipino Mark Magsayo took his first big step up this past weekend as he took on Mexican Rafael Reyes in an interesting IBF youth title fight. The bout brought the best out of the young Filipino though Reyes didn't travel to lose and as a result the two men put on an excellent bout. July 11th 2015- Cebu City Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Donnie Nietes (35-1-4, 21) Vs Francisco Rodriguez Jr (17-2-1, 11) Filipino boxing has been dominated by a trio of champions over the last decade. Internationally the most notable have been Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire, back home however it's been Donnie Nietes holding the fort with a long reign as a champion in the lower weights. This past Saturday "Ahas" as looking to extend his WBO Light Flyweight reign as he took on former unified Minimumweight champion Francisco Rodriguez Jr. |
