November 30th 2013-Araneta Coliseum, Barangay Cubao, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines Rolly Sumalpong (1-0) vs Jeffrey Alejandre (1-0) Last year we were very impressed by Filipino Rolly Sumalpong, who caught our eye against the highly touted Ken Shiro, that however wasn't the first time he had fought in front of the TV cameras with the youngster fighting on TV in his second bout, a contest against fellow novice Jeffrey Alejandre. April 17th 2013-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Kyotaro Fujimoto (5-1, 3) Vs Fabrice Aurieng (7-4, 2) Japanese Heavyweights are few and far between however the active scene does have one notable fighter in the division Kyotaro Fujimoto [京太郎], known as just Kyotaro by many. In one of his early fights he took on Frenchman Fabrice Aurieng. November 26th 2011-Monumental Plaza de Toros México, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8) Vs Edson Espinoza (0-1) Japanese fighter Nobuhiro Ishida [石田 順裕] had a memorable 2011 with two blow out wins. The higher profile one of those came in the US, against James Kirkland, whilst the other came in Mexico against the little known Edson Espinoza, several months after the infamous Kirkland bout. December 31st 2012-Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (17-0-3, 10) Vs Pornsawan Porpramook (27-4-1, 17) Recently we uploaded the TV version of the brilliant WBA Minimumweight title between Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎 亮] and Pornsawan Porpramook [พรสวรรค์ ป.ประมุข], we also stumbled on this "fan cam" version for those interested in watching the bout in a different way. October 21st 2010-Bunka Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (11-0-3, 6) Vs Junichi Ebisuoka (21-12-3, 9) After winning the OPBF Light Flyweight title in the summer of 2010 Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎亮] didn't take long before returning to the ring to defend the belt, against the experienced Junichi Ebisuoka [戎岡淳一]. October 12th 2009-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (9-0-2, 5) Vs Munetsugu Kayo (17-2-3, 9) Japanese warrior Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎亮] first became a world champion at the end of 2012, before that he had claimed the Japanese and OPBF titles. In his first title fight as a professional he faced the often over-looked Munetsugu Kayo [嘉陽宗嗣], who had held the Japanese title for more than 2 years coming into this bout, and had also been an OPBF title holder. June 14th 2010-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (10-0-3, 5) Vs Katsuhiko Iezumi (28-7-3, 19) Today Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎亮] is eyeing up a chance to become a 2-weight world champion. Prior to winning his first world title, way back in 2012, he went through the ranks claiming Japanese OPBF title's. On his way up he took on Katsuhiko Iezumi [家住勝彦] a fearsome and experienced fighter who had high hopes for his own career. October 4th 2003-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Hidenobu Honda (26-2, 14) Vs Alexander Munoz (23-0, 23) In 2002 Japan's Hidenobu Honda [本田秀伸] fought in his first world title fight, coming up short against the then WBC Flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. The following year Honda got his second title shot, up against the fearsome Alexander Munoz, the then WBA champion. Munoz, who had a perfect 23-0 (23) record was fighting a third successive bout in Japanese where he had claimed the title, beating Celes Kobayashi, and had defended it, stopping Eiji Kojima. January 29th 2016-Namuang City Hall Ground Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand Bigboss Chucheepgym (0-0) vs Suordam Sithasorapit (0-0) Every so often we see a Thai fighter adopt a really good name, the latest was the debuting Bigboss Chucheepgym [บิ๊กบอส ชูชีพยิม] who faced fellow debut Suordam Sithasorapit [เสือดำ ศิษย์อสรพิษ]. As it turned out Bigboss wasn't just the holder of a great name but it also seems that there is some promise there, though a lot will need to be done with him if he's to become a "boss" in the sport of professional boxing. |
