September 15th 2015-Bangkok, Thailand Charlermpol Singwancha (14-0, 11) Vs Unknown Thai hopeful Charlermpol Singwancha has, at times, faltered to impress but the Thai has been given time to develop his skills as a boxer. Earlier this week we saw him take on a limited, but rangy foe in a bout that at times showed just how flawed Charlermpol really is. Note-There seems to be no sound with this video. This past Friday Chalmerpol took on Italian visitor Simon Cicine in a defense of the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Welterweight title. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) Some of the stuff that goes on in a Thai ring is suspect to say the least. That ranges from disgusting mismatches to really terrible officiating. We're lucky that we don't tend to see too many mismatches with bad officiating but in the recent Asian Boxing Federation Welterweight title fight between Chalermpol Singwancha, the defending champion, and Didi Panzer, a win-less Super Featherweight from Indonesia, saw a mismatch with some very questionable officiating. The heavy handed Chalermpol looked in charge from the off but whilst he was taking it easy there was no real issue with the referee who viewed from a distance as the Thai fighter just went through the motions. As the Thai began to put his foot on the gas however the referee never seemed to notice that the Indonesian was beginning to take a shellacking. Instead of saving the smaller, weaker and damaged Indonesian he allowed the beating to continue, and continue, and continue...and continue. It seemed both men looked at the referee to ask for the bout to be stopped though the bout some how until Panzer was left flat on his back in the corner. We're sorry to criticise referees but this ref did an awful, awful job and we're just glad to see Panzer get to his feet and look fine at the end of the bout. Shameful refereeing. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) Thailand's Chalermpol Singwancha is relatively highly regarded as a prospect and possible title challenger though his career, so far, has been a difficult one to get a read on, despite plenty of footage of his fights being out there. The problem with Chalermpol is that in a number of his fights he has clearly struggled. The was first evident when he looked out of puff against Dan Nazareno Jr in April 2014 and was again evident just a fight later as Amor Tino gave him hell. What both of those fights had in common was that Chalermpol was facing men who knew how to take care of themselves in the ring and could take a solid shot and fire back. The Thai put those struggles behind him in his very next fight as he took on the lanky but inexperienced Valentine Tino. Tino towered over Chalermpol though allowed the Thai to fight at his own pace which was deliberately slow. Doing that just played into the Thai's hand and he had a real field day with Tino and slowly broke his down whilst smiling through out the bout. Although the bout was a mismatch it was probably the type of bout Chalermpol needed to restore some of his confidence. He does however still need to work on his numerous flaws or he will fall short of even claiming a PABA title. Against this tier of opponent however we do expect that Chalermpol will be fun to watch with his defensive flaws and aggressive mentality. |
