September 16th 2017- Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines Jonas Sultan (13-3, 9) Vs John Riel Casimero (24-3, 15) Some bouts exceed our expectations, and go on to be much better than expected. Others fail to reach the heights expected of them. One bout that was well within that second category was the recent all-Filipno bout between Jonas Sultan and former 2-weight champion John Riel Casimero. March 16th 2013-Megapolis Convention Center, Panama City, Panama John Riel Casimero (17-2, 10) vs Luis Alberto Rios (18-1-1, 13) In February 2012 we saw John Riel Casimero cause a riot in Argentina as he claimed the "interim" IBF Light Flyweight title stopping Luiz Alberto Lazarte. That title was later upgraded and in 2013 he travelled to Panama to defend the belt against Luis Alberto Rios. May 25th 2016-Diamond Court, Beijing, China Amnat Ruenroeng (17-0, 5) vs John Riel Casimero (21-3, 13) In 2015 we saw IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng [อำนาจ รื่นเริง] retain his title in a foul filled bout with the dangerous Filipino Johnriel Casimero in Thailand. In 2016 the men rematched in neutral territory. Note- Chinese speakers may prefer watching the Chinese broadcast version which is here. May 25th 2016-Diamond Court, Beijing, China Amnat Ruenroeng (17-0, 5) vs John Riel Casimero (21-3, 13) In 2015 we saw an absolute farce as tricky IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng [อำนาจ รื่นเริง] broke almost every rule of boxing to out foul and out point dangerous Filipino Johnriel Casimero in Thailand. This year the two men took part in a rematch, on neutral soil in China as part of an IBF event. March 26th 2011-Nasrec Indoor Arena, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa John Riel Casimero (14-1, 8) Vs Moruti Mthalane (26-2, 17) In 2015 we saw John Riel Casimero have his second shot at the IBF Flyweight title, losing to Amnat Ruenroeng in Thailand. June 27th 2015- Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand Amnat Ruenroeng (15-0, 5) Vs Johnriel Casimero (21-3, 13) This past Saturday in Thailand we saw a genuinely anticipated IBF Flyweight title fight between the tricky Amnat Ruenroeng and the explosive Johnriel Casimero. On paper it was a brilliant match however in reality the bout may go down as the dirtiest contest of the year. At times this was little more than ill-officiated farce. We don't want to spoil it but get yourself some popcorn and enjoy the comedic officiating of Larry Doggett. (Video courtesy of KOM THAIREC) |
