December 7th 1996-Tokyo Japan Yosuke Nishijima (16-1, 11) vs Hussain Shah (6-3-1, 3) In 1996 Japan's Yosuke Nishijima took on Japanese based Pakistani Hussain Shah, who was best known for picking up an Olympic medal in 1988, becoming only the second Pakistani athlete to win an individual medal! December 6th 2014-Arena José Sulaimán, Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico Shindo Go (14-2, 9) vs Arely Mucino (20-2-2, 10) In 2014 Japan's Shindo Go, the then WBC female Flyweight champion, travelled to Mexico to defend the title against Arely Mucino in a very good looking match up. August 1993-Riviera Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Yosuke Nishijima (3-0, 3) vs Derrick Edwards (2-4, 1) No two fighters have identical careers, but some fighters have career's that are more unique than others. One pretty unique career is that had by Yosuke Nishijima, who competed in various combat sports along with his boxing career. When it comes to boxing alone he is pretty notable in Japan, having claimed a number of belts never held by any other Japanese fighter, including the WBO NABO, WBF and California State Cruiserweight titles. Here he is made his US debut, back in 1993 when he took on journeyman Derrick Edwards. Just 6 months later she would battle Ibeth Zamora Silva in a bout for the WBC female Light Flyweight title. September 15th 2009-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Naoko Fujioka (0-0) vs Napaporn Boonchuon (5-6, 3) Over the last 10 years Naoko Fujioka [藤岡奈穂子] has become one of, if not the, most notable Japanese female boxers. It's amazing to think she debuted at the age of 34, when she took on Thai visitor Napaporn Boonchuon.
