We spent last month sharing Manny Pacquiao related songs. This week we look at a song dedicated to another Filipino world champion, Johnriel Casimer0. The track is "Quadro Alas", also dubbed the official theme song of Team Casimero, and was recorded by Sly Kane. We don't know much about Sly Kane, but this is a much more relaxing sounding song than many of recent Pacquaio songs, which were all hard hitting. This has a smooth feel to it, and combines English with Filipino really well. Released several years ago this is a very nice track, dedicated to one of the most over-looked Filipino fighters in recent years. This one gets the thumbs up seal of approval from us.

We finish our second month of Manny Pacquiao related music with "Pambansang Kamao" by D-coy feat.Artstrong, E.S.P and Naythan-J. The song, like the previous 3 in this series, is a rap track dedicated to Pacquiao. Unlike the previous tracks however this one isn't just in English, instead mixing English with Filipino. As with most Pacquiao related songs this is hard hitting, energetic, and even as non-rap fans we enjoyed the track. The sheer number of songs dedicated to Manny Pacquiao is quite staggering. Another is this one from South Psycho Side title "Pacman Anthem". The band are a Mexican/Filipino group and have got a really hard hitting rap song here. It's not necessarily what we'd listen to, but you can certainly see the appeal of the track, and it's one we suspect would be great for those doing a work out. Solid and basic, but hard hitting rap here! We're going to start this by admitting we know nothing at all about Unique Umali, but they did do a song related boxing with their track "They Call Me Pacman". Last last wee's track this is another rap song referencing the Filipino great through out with it's lyrics. We'll admit the production values in the video are questionable. As for the song it's self, dubbed the "Manny Pacquiao Anthem", has a sense of familiarity even. Nothing amazing, but certainly nothing terrible, and certainly something that can get the juices flowing. The last few videos in the series have been linked to boxing, for the most part, due to the anime's they have been used in. Today however we head back to songs about boxers as we leave you with "Pound for Pound" by The Trackrunners. The track is about Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao and it's a damn good song. The track is a English language rap track, which is a huge change to recent songs we've included, and much more accessible to many of our readers. Nothing too original, but still a very solid track. Once again we turn to the world of fictional boxing for a song, but this one does actually have some lyrics that relate to boxing, albeit in Japanese. The song "Fighters" by popular band J Soul Brothers was used, at least partially, for the TV drama based on boxing related manga "Rokudenashi Blues". Whilst the TV drama is not the only work related to Rokudenashi Blues it is, to our under-standing, the only one to use this 2011 as a theme tune. If we're being honest it's certainly not a terrible song, even if it's not something we're big fans of. Another week and another song related to boxing due to it's use in a boxing anime. This time it's the original theme tune for "Ashita No Joe", or "Tomorrow's Joe", performed by Isao Bito. The track isn't one of the most well known of the anime theme tunes, and quite often "Beautiful Wolves" is used instead, even in rebroadcasts of the original series. Despite that it's clear this is a brilliant piece of music and is something worth knowing about if you're a fan of boxing anime. Tomorrow's Joe is particularly interesting as that's the show that "Joe" that Joichiro Tatsuyoshi is said to have been named after, with Tatsuyoshi then going on to be known of "Joe of Naniwa" due to the franchise. A week ago we included the original theme tune for "Fist of the North Star", a brilliant boxing anime. This week we include another theme from the show, "Tough Boy" by "Tom Cat". The song's link to the sport isn't just as the theme tune for the show, but was also used by Noriyuki Komatsu as his introduction music, giving a second link to the sport. We genuinely love this song and think it's fantastic for a walk on song. One of our favourite this weekly series of songs related to boxing. This week we return to the world of fictional boxing for another theme tune used in a boxing animation as we share the original theme tune for the hugely popular "Fist of the North Star" series, the same series that gave us the original Ken Shiro. The track "Regain Love" by "Crystal King" is an exciting rock track with some great changes in tempo and rather rare for a music video that we get to share this one does come with lyrics that have been translated into English. We know this isn't necessarily the theme tune many think of when they think of the show, but we like the track and it certainly has it's connection to the sport, in a huge way. A couple of weeks ago we featured "Challenger" in this series which was a Japanese song with lyrics regarding boxer, and today we featured another Japanese song that is again lyrically referencing boxing, rather than being about a the sport. The Kai Band, lead by Yoshihiro Kai, are a Japanese rank band that have, on an off, been around since the 1970's and released "The Beast" in 1979. The lyrics, although in Japanese, do reference boxing a number of times and has been seen used in Japanese anime related videos. Although clearly not as accessible to a non-Japanese audience as some other songs we've featured here we do enjoy the track musically, and would advise people give it a shot even if they don't understand the lyrics. Unfortunately, though not for the first time, we've been unable to find what seems like an official music video, but this live performance is certainly not a bad rendition of the track |
