This coming Wednesday we'll see the next East Japan Rookie of the Year card, with 12 scheduled bouts for the show. As is always the case with the Rookie of the Year the fighters aren't well known, though the match ups do look even on paper, and will be taking place between Flyweight and Middleweight.
Among the bouts on this card is a brilliant Super Flyweight bout between Keito Ayabe (2-0, 2) and Kentaro Moro (1-0, 1). Aged 19 Ayabe is a really promising youngster, who only made his debut last November but already has 2 wins under his belt. Moro, who made his debut in December, is 23 and will be looking to defeat his younger foe. This is a good looking bout, and something to be very interested by.
Another all unbeaten match up oin this card will take place at Bantamweight, where Kanji Nagatomi (1-0) takes on Ryota Yamazaki (1-0, 1). Both guys debuted towards the end of last year and entering the Rookie of the Year could open up doors for either man. We always love seeing Rookie's face off and risking their unbeaten records against each other, and this is no exception, even if they haven't gotten much on their record so far.
The Middleweight bout on this card will see Takumi Yuzawa (0-0-1) battle against 36 year old Andre Takehara Jr (1-1, 1). The win-less Yuzawa earned a draw on his debut, on the penultimate day of 2018, whilst Takehara was stopped just a couple before hand suffering his first loss. At 36 years old it's clearly now or never for Takehara, but it's very hard to imagine him going all the way to December's All Japan final.
