CEBU,PHILIPPINES – Carlo Demecillo, the reigning WBO Oriental Youth bantamweight titleholder, will figure in a non-title contest against Jonathan Francisco in the main event of a five bout card set at the covered court of Sabang, Danao City,Cebu.

Demecillo (13-5-1,6KO’s) weighed in at 117 lbs while Francisco (10-12-1,4KO’s) stepped on the scales at 118 lbs during the official weigh-in held at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Region VII office Friday morning.

Last June, Demecillo beat Junrel Jimenez in a torrid all-Cebu battle for the WBO regional belt by majority decision. Last year, Demecillo had a draw against another local attraction, Arthur Villanueva, who has lost in three world title challenges. Francisco is on a three fight losing streak but two of those were against high quality fighters – Jade Bornea and Froilan Saludar.

The main undercard will feature Clyde Azarcon (15-3-1,5KO’s) vs Gary Rojo (9-13-1,5KO’s) which is a rematch of their hard-fought draw last February in Cebu City. Azarcon weighed 105 lbs but unfortunately Rojo came in at a shocking 113lbs. He was ordered to lose more weight and will be penalized by being made to wear heavier gloves on fight night.

Azarcon will also be looking to bounce back from his first round knockout loss to Japanese Ginjiro Shigeoka in a WBO Asia Pacific title bout in Tokyo.

There will be three more undercard matches  – Rhonvex  Capuloy (124lbs) vs Jeffrey Stella (125lbs), Elmer Naason (136lbs) vs Mark Anthony Rotilles (138lbs) and Kevin Smith Hermoso (116lbs) and Marvin Campo (115.5lbs) are set for their pro debuts. This card presented by Big Yellow Promotions is billed as FIGHT NIGHT III. It will be held Saturday October 19 and opening bout starts at 7:30PM.

CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES – The vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight title will be on the line Wednesday June 5 when Carlo Demecillo and Junrel Jimenez battle in a scheduled ten rounder at the Robinson’s Galleria Mall in Cebu City.

Demecillo (12-5-1,6KO’s) stepped on the scales at 117 lbs while Jimenez was at the division limit of 118. Demecillo’s best performance was a much talked about draw against former world title challenger Arthur Villanueva here in Cebu. He came up short in overseas contests losing to Indonesian Ruben Manakane by split decision in their fight for the WBA Asia super bantamweight title. He lost in Japan twice to Hisashi Amagasa and Satoshi Shimizu.

Jimenez (8-1-1,5KO’s) was a mainstay of the Cebu amateur boxing team and won multiple golds in national tournaments. His only career loss was to Salatiel Amit also here in Cebu City.

More than the WBO belt, a world ranking will be at stake for the winner. The weigh-in held at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Cebu office was supervised by WBO Vice President for Asia Pacific Leon Panoncillo.

The officials will also be all-Filipino, the referee will be Atty. Danrex Tapdsan with judges Edward Ligas, Edgar Olalo and Tony Pesons.

There are four bouts set for the undercard – Clyde Azarcon (14-2-1,5KO’s) – 104.75 lbs vs Ernesto Alera (5-6-1, 0KO) 108lbs , Virgel Vitor (13-2,7KO’s) – 125.5 lbs vs Jeffrey Stella (4-7-3,4KO’s) – 130 lbs , Rhonvex Capuloy (5-1,3KO’s) – 125 lbs vs Japanese Toushin Battulga (2-0,1KO)- 126 lbs and Elmer Naason (1-0,1KO) – 137.5 lbs vs Matthew Fondales (1-1,0KO) – 140 lbs.

This card is free to the public and will start at 6PM.

CEBU, PHILIPPINES - Two young prospects, Carlo Demecillo and Junrel Jimenez, will figure in an all-Filipino battle this June 5 for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight title at the Robinson’s Galleria Mall in Cebu City.

Demecillo (12-5-1,6KO’s) is a noted brawler who lost in his first bid last year to win a regional belt in Indonesia, losing to the home fighter, Ruben Manakane by split decision in their fight for the WBA Asia super bantamweight title. He lost in Japan twice to Hisashi Amagasa and Satoshi Shimizu. Last November, Demecillo surprised a lot of fans when he came up with a draw against former world title challenger Arthur Villanueva here in Cebu City. In his last bout, he knocked out Jeffrey Stella in four rounds.

Jimenez (8-1-1,5KO’s) has compiled a 3W-1D record since he suffered his only loss three years ago at the hands of Salatiel Amit also here in Cebu City. He is a former amateur standout, having won multiple gold medals in national tournaments.

There are four bouts penned for the undercard – Clyde Azarcon (14-2-1,5KO’s) vs Ernesto Alera (5-6-1, 0KO), Virgel Vitor (13-2,7KO’s) vs Jeffrey Stella (4-7-3,4KO’s), Rhonvex Capuloy (5-1,3KO’s) vs Mark Anthony Rotilles (2-4,1KO), and Elmer Naason (1-0,1KO) vs Matthew Fondales (1-1,0KO).

Pacquiao vs Thurman and Donaire vs Inoue are the current favorite topics of fight fans in the Philippines. But for the die-hard boxing fans who enjoy seeing up close the up and coming prospects, this free to the public fight card is a good opportunity to do so.
