One of the lesser used, yet delightfully eye catching, venues in Tokyo is the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, better known as the "Tokyo Big Sight".
The venue, which was opened in 1996 in the Ariake area of Tokyo Bay, is one of the most distinctive buildings in Ariake and was made in the 1990's and is split into 3 sections. The West Exhibition Hall, the East Exhibition Hall and the Conference Tower, each of which has it's own functions, and restaurants.
Although the venue is one of the most recognisable in the area, and makes for a fantastic venue for various events, it's only been used for boxing 3 times with the most recent of those being Last July when Koki Kameda defended the WBA Bantamweight title against John Mark Apolinario. Surprisingly that was the first time it was used for boxing for almost 3 years.
The venue will be used in a few years time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and will be the base for the media during the competition as well hosting several events, though not boxing sadly.
For those interested in knowing more about the facilities available at the Big Sight the English language website can be found at http://www.bigsight.jp/english.
