December 5th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (24-2-1, 8) vs Hiroyuki Hisataka (24-15-1, 10) An old adage in boxing is that "styles make fights". That was certainly the case when former Japanese Flyweight champion Suguru Muranaka [村中 優] former multi-time world title challenger Hiroyuki Hisataka [久高 寛之] recently, and what a treat we got. Coming in to this one Muranaka was viewed as a man woking his way towards a world title fight whilst Hisataka was viewed as being well beyond his best, but in the ring both guys combined to give us an early Christmas gift.

April 12th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (22-2-1, 7) vs Shun Ishibashi (10-18-1, 4) Earlier this year Japanese fans had the chance to see Suguru Muranaka [村中 優] return to the ring following repeated issues with weight. On his ring return he took on the Shun Ishibashi [石橋 俊], who was fighting for the 30th time. September 9th 2006- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (6-1, 2) Vs Toyoto Shiraishi (6-0-1, 2) The Rookie of the Year tournament is one of the key features of the Japanese boxing scene as rookies get matched in competitive bouts in an attempt to win the tournament. In 2006 one of the regional Flyweight bouts saw Suguru Muranaka battle against Toyoto Shiraishi in what was a brilliant match up at the time and a fight that helped both men become the fighters they are today. For what it's worth Muranaka is the current Flyweight champion whilst Shiraishi has fought for both the Japanese and Oriental titles at Super Flyweight. (Video courtesy of 村中優後援会) March 22nd 2012- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (15-2-1, 4) Vs Hyobu Nakagama (14-8-3, 10) In December 2011 we saw Hyobu Nakagama battle against Thai great Oleydong Sithsamerchai. Just a few months later Nakagama was back at home and battling against Suguru Muranaka and what a battle they out on as they both traded shots in volume in what amounted to a very exciting and action packed contest. The winner was a clear winner but the action kept things interesting through out. Those licenses try to keep fights as even they can and also helps promote solid prospects into better match ups. One such B license bout saw Suguru Muranaka battling against Hiroki Saito. Muranaka was the more experienced fighter however Saito was viewed as a man on the fast track and had scored 4 very good wins coming into this bout courtesy of his frightening power. (Video courtesy of 村中優後援会) April 11th 2011- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (13-2-1, 4) Vs Along Denoy (31-8-4-1, 18) It's often hard to know how good a fighter is until they step in the ring with someone we recognise. Coming into this bout we were unsure how good Suguru Muranaka was, he was promising but we weren't sure how good. We did however have an idea how good Along Denoy was given that he had come incredibly close to defeating Sonny Boy Jaro for the OPBF Light Flyweight title in 2008. Using the Denoy Vs Jaro fight as a marking point we could hazard a guess as to how good Muranaka was when he fought Denoy. One such ending occurred when the exciting Suguru Muranaka traded shots with Katsumi Makiyama in a bout that seemed to be turning into an all action war before a head clash caused a premature ending leaving everyone wondering what would have happened had the bout reached a natural conclusion. (Video courtesy of 村中優後援会 we are sorry about the less than stellar quality regarding this footage) November 3rd 2006- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (7-1, 2) Vs Tomoya Kaneshiro (8-1-1, 2) One of the great things about the Japanese boxing scene is the sheer number of competitive bouts at the lower levels. One such bout saw Suguru Muranaka test his abilities against Tomoya Kaneshiro in a brilliantly matched 6 round for the East Japan Rookie of the year. On paper the bout was brilliant with both men facing a very credible test. In the ring it wasn't non stop fire works but was a competitive contest between two young men looking to prove themselves and take a big step forward with their career. Interestingly Kaneshiro would go on to fight for the interim Japanese Flyweight title less than 2 years after this bout whilst Muranaka won the Japanese title in late 2013, proving how much potential these youngster had way back in 2006. (Video courtesy of 村中優後援会) August 18th 2005- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (3-0, 1) Vs Shigeo Saito (5-2, 1) It can be really interesting to see a fighter mature and develop and sometimes we're incredibly lucky to come across footage of a fighter very early in their career. One such fighter is Suguru Muranaka who has had much of his career recorded including his 4th professional bout from more than 9 years ago. In this bout Muranaka was fighting against Shigeo Saito, a man even we're unfamiliar with. At the time we doubt anyone would have suspect Muranaka would later become a Japanese national champion.
