Thailand's Veeraphol Sahaprom [วีระพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] reigned as the WBC Bantamweight champion from 1998 to 2005, making a very impressive number of defenses. One of which came against the tough Sergio Perez.

In 1975 South Korean fighter Soo Hwan Hong [홍수환] travelled to the US to face the monstrously hard hitting Alfonso Zamora. The two men would meet again the following year.
