October 30th 1993-Nasrec Indoor Arena, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa Orzubek Nazarov (17-0, 14) vs Dingaan Thobela (29-1-1, 16) After running up a 17-0 (14) record in Japan former amateur stand out Orzubek Nazarov travelled to South Africa for his first world title fight, against the then WBA Lightweight champion Dingaan Thobela, in what was the first of two meetings between the two men.

April 2nd 1977-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Saensak Muangsurin (7-1, 6) vs Guts Ishimatsu (31-12-6, 17) In 1977 the then WBC Light Welterweight champion Saensak Muangsurin [แสนศักดิ์ เมืองสุรินทร์] travelled to Japan to face former Lightweight champion Guts Ishimatsu [ガッツ 石松]. January 11th 2002-Thanyaburi, Thailand Veeraphol Sahaprom (34-1-1, 25) vs Sergio Perez (23-9, 16) Thailand's Veeraphol Sahaprom [วีระพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] reigned as the WBC Bantamweight champion from 1998 to 2005, making a very impressive number of defenses. One of which came against the tough Sergio Perez. June 7th 1994-Convention Center, South Padre Island, Texas, USA Rolando Bohol (34-13-3, 7) Vs Orlando Canizales (36-1-1, 27) In 1994 Filipino Rolando Bohol attempted to become a 2-weight champion as he faced the brilliant Orlando Canizales, the then IBF Bantamweight champion. March 14th 1975-Forum, Inglewood, California, USA Soo Hwan Hong (28-2-2, 7) Vs Alfonso Zamora (20-0, 20) In 1975 South Korean fighter Soo Hwan Hong [홍수환] travelled to the US to face the monstrously hard hitting Alfonso Zamora. The two men would meet again the following year. December 2nd 1995-Provincial Gymnasium, Sa Kaeo, Thailand Chana Porpaoin (35-0, 14) Vs Rosendo Alvarez (19-0, 14) In the mid 1990's Thai fans saw the then WBA Minimumweight champion Chana Porpaoin [ชนะ ป.เปาอินทร์] to face off against Nicaraguan challenger Rosendo Alvarez, in a rare all unbeaten match up. June 23th 1987-Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan Kengo Fukuda (8-1, 7) vs Juliot Odeaman (0-0)* In 1987 Japanese fighter Kengo Fukuda [福田健吾] battled against Juliot Odeaman. *Odeaman is shown as being 5-2 (3) on the onscreen graphic July 29th 1982-Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Jiro Watanabe (15-1, 10) vs Gustavo Ballas (57-1-1, 21) In 1982 Jiro Watanabe [渡辺二郎] claimed his first world title. In his first defense of that title Watanabe went up against former champion Gustavo Ballas. |
