Chudinov, known as “The Classic”, was fighting against PABA champion Ben McCulloch (14-1, 11) and it seemed that both men had belief in their power. Between them they entered with 20 stoppages from 25 fights.
Although both had power both began the bout by trying to establish their jabs. From early on it seemed that Chudinov had the edge in power and physical strength whilst McCulloch was the slightly faster and rangier man. The jabs of Chudinov seemed to snap back the head of McCulloch whilst McCulloch's own shots seemed unable to do the same to the Russian who looked the more durable.
Although the opening round did see a lot of jabs from both they each seemed happy to trade shots with Chudinov's right hand looking like the key punch of the round, despite the fact he was forced to take a few of McCulloch's rights in return. It was one such trading sequences that ended the opening round.
The exciting ending to the first stanza acted as the warm up to the second round which began with both men trading. Unfortunately for McCulloch a few moments of success early in the round seemed to send Chudinov in to seek and destroy mode with the Russian cutting the distance and immediately applying intense pressure. McCulloch's answer to the pressure was to try and fight fire with fire. It was a mistake from the Australian who seemed to feel the power of Chudinov's blows several times whilst being bullied. Sadly for McCulloch he had no answer to the pressure other than to fight back and this soon left him open for a right hand that seemed to rock him, moments later, as McCulloch tried to fire back, he was caught with another right hand that sent the Australian down face first with the referee quick to wave off the bout.
The KO was massive and it seemed to not just knock out McCulloch but to also leave him in a bad way and it was several minutes before he regained conciousness and eventually left the ring under his own steam, though was still glassy eyed.
For those who failed to see this one live the KO is up there with the best of the year and is well worth checking out on youtube.
