May 14th 2001-Palais des Sports, Paris, Paris, France Veeraphol Sahaprom (31-1, 22) vs Ricardo Barajas (21-1-1, 20) It's fair to say that 2001 was a busy year for Thai great Veeraphol Sahaprom [วีระพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น], who fought 6 times, with 3 of those bouts taking outside of his homeland. One of those bouts saw him facing the big punching Ricardo Barajas in France. September 11th 2004-Chaophraya Dam's Ground, Chainart, Thailand Veeraphol Sahaprom (43-1-2, 29) vs Cecilio Santos (16-3-2, 10) Thailand's Veeraphol Sahaprom [วีระพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] had a really impressive reign as the WBC Bantamweight champion. In his 14th defense he took on Cecilio Santos of Mexico. December 5th 2000-Royal Promenade-Sanam Luang, Bangkok, Thailand Veeraphol Sahaprom (28-1, 20) vs Oscar Arciniega (31-14-2, 18) In December 1998 Thailand's Veeraphol Sahaprom [วีระพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] claimed the WBC Bantamweight title with a win over Japan's Joichiro Tatsuyoshi. In his 5th defense of that title he took on Mexican Oscar Arciniega. September 17th 1995-Nonthaburi, Thailand Veeraphol Sahaprom (3-0, 3) Vs Daorung Chuwatana (55-5-3, 33) In recent year's we've seen young Japanese fighters climb through the rankings at an alarming rate with current world champions like Naoya Inoue and Kosei Tanaka. In the past however it was often the Thai's who moved over from Muay Thai to boxing who were fast tracked, like Saensak Muangsurin and Veeraphol Sahaprom [ธีระพล สำราญกลาง]. Here is Sahaprom, AKA "Deathmask", fighting in his first world title bout, in what was just his 4th professional bout. In the opposite corner was the highly experienced Daorung Chuwatana [ดาวรุ่ง ชูวัฒนะ], who was the then WBA Bantamweight champion. |
