June 10th-Khon Kaen, Thailand Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (40-6-1, 20) Vs Jomar Fajardo (14-7-2, 7) Last year we saw Jomar Fajardo surprisingly fight to a draw with Francisco Rodriguez Jr. The result ended Rodriguez's, other strong, claim to be a contender for the Fighter of the Year, and helped take Fajardo from unknown to exciting slugger. Earlier today Thai fans saw Fajardo in the ring against former Super Flyweight title holder, and leading Bantamweight contender, Suriyan Sor Rungvisai. On paper it was mismatch based on size alone. June 10th 2015- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Shingo Wake (18-4-2, 11) Vs Mike Tawatchai (35-7-1, 21) The Super Bantamweight division has been one of the most frustrating, with champions picking weak challengers and the contenders refusing to face off. Today however we got one rare bout between contenders as Mike Tawatchai traveled to Japan to face Shingo Wake in an IBF eliminator. For once we had contenders facing off for the right to fight a champion. Note-At the time of writing this fight hasn't been aired in Japan, however fans in Thailand got the chance to see it live. This is from that Thai broadcast. (Video courtesy of KOM THAIREC) June 6th 2015- DBL Arena, Surabaya, Indonesia Daud Yordan (33-3-0-1, 24) Vs Maxwell Awuku (40-2-1, 26) Indonesia doesn't have many interesting fighters but it's fair to say Daud Yordan is a fighter worth being interested in. The former world title challenger was in action this past weekend when he took on the tough Maxwell Awuku in what was Yordan's first bout of 2015. June 6th 2015- Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa Roman Zhailauov (14-0, 8) vs Luyanda Jako (9-9-2, 4) Kazakh Middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin has made a career out of taking fighters apart with his combination of power and skill. This past weekend however we saw another Kazakh show off his power and record one of the best KO's of the year so far. That was Roman Zhailauov who took out Luyanda Jako in genuinely eye catching fashion. If you like KO's then this one if a real treat. June 5th 2015- Pathum Thani, Thailand Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym (29-1-2, 14) Vs Charnsaknoi Sakrungrueng (2-5, 2) That contender Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym is known by Western fans for two things. Firstly he's the Thai Manny Pacquiao lookey-likey and secondly he was widely beaten by Zou Shiming in Macau. Despite those less than outstanding memories he's actually a decent, as seen when he fought Charnsaknoi Sakrungrueng. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 5th 2015- Pathum Thani, Thailand Rakniran Muadransarakam (5-0, 4) vs Thaminkhao Sor Tharnthip (4-11-1, 3) Last year we saw Rakniran Muadransarakam begin his professional career and we were quickly impressed by the promising Thai. This past Friday was saw Rakniran return to the ring for his 6th bout as a professional as he took on journeyman Thaminkhao Sor Tharnthip. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 5th 2015- Pathum Thani, Thailand Thewa Onesongchaigym (7-2, 2) Vs Petchnamngam Jan u bon (?-?) Oneshongchai are one of the most notable stables in Thailand. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 5th 2015- Pathum Thani, Thailand Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (54-2, 35) Vs Fred Sayuni (13-6-6, 7) Former 2-time world title challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo is certainly among the most active fighters in the sport. This past Friday Chonlatarn sought his 55th win as he took on the unknown Fred Sayuni from Tanzania. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 21st-South Korea Ji Hye Woo (14-2, 1) Vs Wanphen Sithpracha (9-0, 3) Earlier this year Korean fans got the chance to see the talented but light hitting Ji Hye Woo take on Thailand's Wanphen Sithpracha in what was, on paper at least, an interesting looking bout. -Note Boxrec.com claim this was held in Seoul, though we believe it was actually in Jeonju as it was clearly the same venue as the Dan Bi Kim Vs Lookkwan Sithpracha which took place on the same day but is unlisted on boxrec (at the time of writing). May 23rd 2015- Mungyung Gymnasium, Mungyung, South Korea Hyun Mi Choi (9-0-1, 3) Vs Chika Mizutani (14-4, 7) We've been big fans of Korean fighter Hyun Mi Choi whose career, and life story so far, have been nothing short of inspirational. Recent we saw Choi defending her WBA female Super Featherweight title against Japan's Chika Mizutani. It took us a while to hunt this video but we're glad we got it in the end. |
