March 20th 2015-NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (32-4-1, 29) vs Madit Sada (9-20-1, 3) Heavy handed Thai Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is expected to get a world title eliminator later in the year. Until he can get that fight he's going to be kept busy fighting low tier guys in stay busy fights. One such fight saw him battle against Indonesia's Madit Sada in a horrible mismatch of a stay busy contest. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th)

March 18th 2015- Sukjai Resort, Wangnoi, Ayutthaya, Thailand Yokthong KKP (17-4, 11) vs Oscar Raknafa (12-8, 5) A lot of bouts in Thailand are mismatches but every so often we do get a fight that looks a little more even that the typical mismatches. One such bout saw the limited Thai Yokthong KKP, best known for losses to Ryuji Hara and Zou Shiming, battle against Oscar Rankafa, best known for losing to a then debuting Kosei Tanaka and a then unbeaten Kwanpichit OnesongChaigym. We won't pretend it was collision of giants but certainly wasn't a complete mismatch either. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 18th 2015-Sukjai Resort, Wangnoi, Ayutthaya, Thailand Terdsak Kokietgym (54-5-1, 34) Vs Yakobus Heluka (8-9, 1) Last year we all Thailand's Terdsak Kokietgym go to war with Orlando Salido in a bout for the WBO Super Featherweight title. Sadly for Terdsak he came up short in that bout certainly made some new fans who saw his style and heart. Since then he fought twice with the most recent of those bouts being against Indonesian fighter Yakobus Heluka in a bout for the WBA Asia Super Flyweight title. On paper it was a mismatch but it was an opportunity for Terdsak to keep ticking over and continue his busy schedule. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) May 23rd 2009- Medina Gymnasium, Barangay Maningcol, Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines Rommel Asenjo (13-2, 11) vs Sadiki Abdulazizi (7-2, 4) A few years ago Rommel Asenjo came to the attention of international boxing fans when he fought Raul Garcia for the WBO Minimumweight title. Prior to that he had caught the eye of Filipino domestic fans for his exciting style which had seen him score a lot of early wins. Whilst the Garcia bout was his first world title bout he had previously contested for regional titles with his 2009 clash against Sadiki Abdulazizi being for the WBO Oriental title. We won't pretend Asenjo looked awesome here but he did look a lot of fun. In our eyes that's their loss as they miss out on some amazing fights such as this brilliant clash between two of female boxing's best stars. In one corner we had Japan's Naoko Fujioka, a 2-weight world champion and one of the best female fighters on the planet, in the other corner we had Mexico's hugely popular Mariana Juarez, one of the most popular female fighters on the planet. When the two came together we had one of the best fights so far this year. In his first defence of that title Han battle against Jae Ho Kim, a man best known for losing to the then debuting Myung Soo Sun in a bout for the Korean Light Welterweight title. Sports Center, Chonburi, Thailand Hongkyoon Shin (9-3-1, 5) Vs Jack Madison (2-3) Korean boxing certainly isn't on fire at the moment but it does seem like some people are trying to change that and help some Korean fighters make a name for themselves. Among them are AK Promotions who have started taking their stable of fighters over to Thailand to help them build their records and experience as well as claiming titles and building their careers. One such Korean fighter was Hongkyoon Shin who recently too on Indonesia's Jack Madison in a bout for a lightly regarded WBC regional title. (Video AK promotions) March 14th 2015- A.K. Sports Center, Chonburi, Thailand Jaseung Lee (17-4-2, 9) Vs Angelito Merin (8-6-3, 2)* AK Boxing have struggled with bouts taking place in Korea so have taken their shows on the road to Thailand and have began to pick up traction. One of the recent bouts in Thailand saw Jaesung Lee, one of the more well known Korean fighters, battle against Filipino "Rivera AK Gym", who was later revealed, by AK themselves, to be Angelito Merin a controversial Filipino fighter who made headlines a month before this bout for fighting in illegal bouts in Thailand. *Note at the time of publishing boxrec.com do not list Rivera as being Merin like they do with a previous bout Merin fought as "Chapitio Rivera". (Video courtesy of AK promotions) March 5th 2015- City Hall Ground, Chonburi, Thailand Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep (34-3, 20) Vs Unknown On March 5th we saw the return to the ring of Thailand's Yodmongkol Vor Saenghtep, who was fighting for the first time since his loss to Juan Carlos Reveco in a WBA Flyweight title bout at the end of 2014. Unfortunately we're unsure who Yodmongkol fought and boxrec.com haven't got the bout listed, as of yet. This makes us suspect that "Unknown" is certainly not someone of any real note, possibly a debutant. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 13th 2015- Bangkok University, Thonburi Campus, Bangkok, Thailand Montree PKT College (0-0) Vs Denmanee Manoprungroj (0-0) We love watch Thai novices due to the fact many of them appear to be more complete fighters than many western novices at the same point in their careers. One such fighter who impressed us on debut was Montree PKT College who took on fellow debutant Denmanee Manoprungroj this past Friday (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) |
