March 23rd 2015- Estudios de Telecaribe, Barranquilla, Colombia Kanat Islam (18-0, 15) Vs Orlando de Jesus Estrada (11-6-1, 9) The heavy handed Kanat Islam has had an interesting career as a boxer. In 2008 he won an Olympic medal for China, fighting under the name Hanati Silamu, as a WSB fighter he has been fighting for the Kazakhstan team whilst as a "proper" professional he has been fighting in Latin America, with many of his fights coming in the Dominican Republic and Colombia. His 19th professional bout saw Islam battle against Orlando de Jesus Estrada, a man who had been stopped everytime he had faced an opponent with any type of "name" value. March 23rd 2015-Ayuthaya, Thailand Stamp Kiatniwat (12-0, 5) Vs Wilber Andogan (10-18-4, 4) Last year we saw Thai teenager Stamp Kiatniwat garner real attention with his excellent win over Kwanthai Sithmorseng. That win really put Stamp on our map and suggested he was one of the sports premier teenage prospects. In January this year we then saw Stamp being given a very, very tough test by Espinos Sabu. That tough test left us wondering just how good Stamp was and coming into this bout with Wilber Andogan we thought Stamp had questions to answer. Neither guy has a fabulous record on paper but neither had been matched easy and on paper this was a really good match up. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 21st 2015-Mexicali, Mexico Min Wook Kim (11-1, 8) Vs Lizandro De los Santos (22-12, 9) This past weekend we witnessed the long awaited return to action of Min Wook Kim, a talented Korean who had held the OPBF Light Welterweight title back in 2012-2013. Sadly following his OPBF title reign Kim's career went on an hiatus and it was more than 18 months before he returned to the ring following his victory Valentine Hosokawa. On his return he took on Mexico's Lizandro De los Santos. An over-matched but gutsy Mexican. (Video courtesy of STS Boxing) March 20th 2015- Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA Yoshihiro Kamegai (25-2-1, 22) Vs Alfonso Gomez (24-6-2, 12) Japanese warrior Yoshihiro Kamegai is one of the few Japanese fighters who has made a name for himself Stateside with a number of memorable bouts, including a war with Robert Guerrero. Recently he returned to the US to take on former "Contender" star and 2-time world title challenger Alfonso Gomez in a highly anticipated battle between two popular warriors. December 19th 2010- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Hayato Yamaguchi (5-2) Vs Eiji Fujiwara (6-1, 1) Over the last few days it's been announced that Hayato Yamaguchi would be challenging for the Japanese Light Flyweight title. Due to that we hunted down a little big of footage of Yamaguchi in action. This bout comes from the 2010 Rookie of the year final in which Yamaguchi battles Eiji Fujiwara. Coming in both guys were inexperienced but knew a win here could potentially be their platform to bigger and better things in the future. (Video courtesy of blankygang) March 20th 2015- NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Toto Lookmuangbangklang (0-1) Vs Songkramchai Ektinakorn (0-0) Often novice bouts in Thailand can give some really good action. The bouts might not get the attention of an international fan base but they can be good fun to watch. We won't pretend this bout, between Toto Lookmuangbangklang and Songkramchai Ektinakorn, was a classic but it was certainly an enjoyable fight to watch with both giving their all in an engaging contest. It wasn't the highest skilled bout, but was fun to watch, for the most part with contrasting styles of the two men involved. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 20th 2015- NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Denchai Por Korbkua (1-2) Vs Petchboon Sithsaithong (2-1, 2) There is a lot to be said for match ups where the fighters have even looking records. Sometimes it's clear that neither is a star in the making but the matches tend to be more interesting than a lot of mismatches that we see. On paper one even looking match ups saw Denchai Por Korbkua fight against Petchboon Sithsaithong in what looked like a very even match up on paper (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 20th 2015-NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Kongfah Nakornluang (19-0, 11) vs Ricky Morales (4-0-1) WBC Youth silver Super Flyweight champion Kongfah Nakornluang is a fighter who, for the most part, looks very limited, but he is rarely in a dull fight due to his limitations an style. Recently he put his youth title on the line as he took on Indonesian visitor Ricky Morales, himself an unbeaten challenger. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) |
